The Bronco II i bought came with a freshly rebuilt c5 with modified shift points and a c4 valvebody. Its going to be bolted to a 92 Explorer 4.0. Ive been reading that a dana 20 transfercase (i believe from an early bronco) will bolt right up. They make TeraLow kits, twin sticks, etc. for the dana 20, and maybe doubler options out there that I have yet to find. IIRC rich said he already had the correct bellhousing etc to make the swap possible. The BII does have a 3" body lift which should help ease the install. I want to put one tons on, lenghten the wheelbase, cage it and do about a 40" tires, Im debating how much sheet metal to remove.

but back to the tcase and tranny
What do you guys know about this swap, difficulty, parts needed, etc. (dana20 c5)?
Any good write ups out there?
TeraLOw kits any good?

:stirthepot:Im going to be doing more searching and will post up any links or info that I find.

It WON'T bolt right up, you need to get the EB C-4 tailshafthousing, possibly the tailshaft (I need to go re-count the splines on the D20 in the garage and verify the length fo the tailshaft) plus keep in mind that the EB D20 uses a cable for the speedo, so that is one more thing to be addressed.

Ok so it may not bolt up but it can be done without custom adapters or specialty shafts being made...right?

It says they (Klune) do custom adapters ($$$) but doesnt mention borgwarner 1350 or 1354 Tcases. It also has no mention of the c5 transmission. They have adapters for the c4 but that leaves me with the same issues tailshaft etc that Mudhound addressed... and Id rather have an atlas. who wouldnt

but for a budget build eb parts aint cheap, or the easiest to find anymore. The 1350 manual I have already will work fine for now. I wish I could get a doubler kit from D.D. Machine.:annoyed:

There was a post over on Pirate4x4.com where Ballistic Fabrication was contemplating making a doubler kit for our trucks, I'll see if I can find it. You might want to add yourself to that list as well.

As for Klune... Years ago they said they were going to make the adapters to fit theirs in our trucks, but they had dropped the ball as well, and some other company finally ended up buying them out (Hi-Impact 4x4 or something like that). I got tired of waiting and bought an Atlas, but then regretted it because of losing the stock low range. Having the doubler is just so much more versatile with it's stock low option, and a double-low that's low enough you don't need to hold your foot on the throttle (can't do that with the Atlas unless you go with the 6.0 one maybe, and the 4-speed one last I checked wasn't available in the RBV pattern).

I'll do the research, machining, test and fitting if someone wants to donate a D20 to the cause:icon_thumby:I'm currently researching/designing making a low range 4404 case (V8 explorer AWD case)

heres the email i got from the guys that mike a KluneV

I have been thinking about it, but, no, at this point I do not have the adapters to put a Klune in with the 25spl 5 bolt Ford drivetrains. Sorry.
I DO have an Atlas transfer case that will fit, 3.8 ratio is $2095

Check Advanced Adapters. they may have something that will work for you. My 20 is mated to a C-6(had to be a 31 spline output shaft out of a 4x4 tranny). It was pricey though 800 for it, but it came with a new stub shaft and the adapter to mate it up to the tranny.
