Damned fuel pump shut-off.

So yesterday on my way home from work I jammed on the brakes to stop hard when a traffic light turned yellow. I somehow managed to brake hard enough to trip the fuel pump reset with even locking the tires up (or engaging the abs), but my front end did bounce a bit. Well, maybe the abs did kick in slightly which might explain why I think it was bouncing a bit...

And of course I didn't think of that right away I sat there cranked the starter a few times, but some random stranger came and gave me a push to help me get out the traffic lanes (I was first in line and blocking 1/2 lanes on the highway that goes right through town and it was the middle of rush hour). By the time we started pushing I remembered reading about that reset switch in my owner's manual and boy was I glad I read the manual, before this truck I'd never even heard of such a thing.

Hit the reset, she started right up...

Is that normal for it to trip that easily?

It's against the firewall high up in front of the pax feet.....

my truck was in an accident. after it was up and running the switch acted up twice going a lil fast trough a dip. and i tought the same youre thinkin.. i figured the switch was too sesetive for some reason after the crash. i could hit the firewall real hard and it would reset... but i left it alone and its been fine, i got another one from an other ranger and havent needed to put it in..

is this help for you i dont know.. but thats what i can say,

My old '87 kicked off twice on my in 120k miles. Once I hit a huge hole in the road, second time I had a choice between the ditch and a semi taking his half out of the middle. Whats funny is when I laid it on it's side it didn't kick off.

Cool, thanks for the replies. I'm glad to hear that it does happen occasionally so I'm sure there is nothing wrong with mine...

Been driving for almost 20 years and this is the first time I've had this come up. It kinda caught me offguard...

It shouldn't do that. Ever.

Replace it.

Especially an 07, on the street.
I could see if you were bangin' off rocks on a trail.
Even then, they rarely trip.

You don't want it to do that at the most inopportune moment.

i agree with him..
thats bs, ive jumped my truck(many times), slid into ditches and done lots of other things of that sort, but never been ina accident..and its never been tripped. get rid of it and get a new one.

The switch on my 93 tripped on it's 3rd day out of the dealership after hitting a small bump - reset it and went 14 more years without a problem.

Hmmm, maybe I will take it in to the dealer and see what they have to say about it....
