Well I went to the dmv, to try and file for a lost tittle on the 84 ranger i bought this last weekend. I purchased it from the guy whose property it has been abandoned on for the last 6 years. Well the registered owner was a illegal immigrant from Mexico, and was deported six years ago, the dmv says i have to contact him, but they wont give me his name, and honestly it sounds just about useless to even try. So now i figure ill just part it out and scrap it, so now im gonna have a bunch of parts i don't need or want including a 2.0,4 speed manual trans, and a 7.5 rear end, and all the front end parts for a 84 ranger, gonna do a cab swap with my 83 since the 84 is in much nicer cond.
So my question is what would be a fair price to ask for on the drive train tranny is strong and smooth, rear end feels good, engine good and strong but will need rings, and possibly, valve guide seals, not lookin to get rich just a fair price to move them in this economy. Than to top it off i took my 83 to the insurance adjuster to have it inspected due to the accident i was in and they are sayin it will most likely be a total loss:bawling: I shall build her bigger and badder:icon_welder: she will never die:icon_cheers:

The dmv should give you his name. Around here $10 and a license plate number will get you a name, after that you gotta do a little homework.

How do they expect you to contact him if they won't give you a name?

that's what i asked but not so nicely she gave me the whole riot act speech about my language and than hung up. i wish i could have reached through the phone and slapped her

find another ranger and use that reg. just swap vin tags

If it's even still there it was a "frame swap".

rip off the plates and take a grinder to the vin and you got yourself a trailer queen

Not sure how they catch you, but this is highly illegal.

You bring taco bell gift card, you get name and seesters number.

Good idea but its only a 2 wheel drive my other truck is the 4x4,

Ok so how about this idea take what i need to fix my 4x4, than make a trailer out of the bed and frame, than move motor mounts to custom frame in bed use tranny as a P.T.O. to run 4 24 volt,200 amp alt. off of a big rig, run power to a 220, and a 110 power inverter and walla a home made power station to run anything, and everything welders compressors, my house, and my neighbors house

It is a class 4 felony to swap VIN numbers from one vehicle to another. Also there are VIN numbers all over the place on a vehicle not just the dash. There are several hidden to make it nearly impossible to truly swap VIN's without a way to find out the true identity of the vehicle.

That said, the person who's property it was on for 6 years should be able to get an absndoned title. Most states have provision for this and it usually involves some paperwork obviously and an ad in the newspaper for so many days, if noone responds they get an abandoned title. It is very much like a mechanics lien.
