So winter is around the corner in Michigan and now everything is always cold. ITS ALWAYS COLD. Grrr...
Anyways. Now is when the truck starts acting up and doing "new" things. I usually start looking at other vehicles, it gets jealous, and fixes itself, but seems to be having a harder time. Recently, when you put it in drive (auto) with your foot on the brake, the engine bogs down to about 500-550rpm. It will intermittently make a rattling noise (that is not consistent, kind of rattles, then stops for a second, rattles for a few, stops for a few, rattles for a second, stops for a few, etc...) It almost sounds like a paint rattle can being shaken really fast. It sometimes does it at around 2000rpm's, but the same frequency as at idle so I don't think it is a broken loose pushrod like someone has suggested to me.
I know my IAC valve is funky, as when it's cold out it starts making the loud, obnoxious noise (worse when the engine is cold, gets a little better when it warms up) and I wonder if that is what is making all the racket? It's really hard to open the hood and poke around because I would have to put it in drive and put a brick on the brake to listen to it, but that could end badly in just so many ways. It should be noted it does not make any of these noises when it is warm out, about 50 degrees or warmer. It's a 4.0 with nearly 200K on the clock.
