Damn Semi Drivers

Had you not been in a bad situation with a semi a few months ago, would you believe the story your friend is telling?

It really does sound like the truck driver was a dick and I'm glad your friend is ok cause with that weight it wouldn't take much to do the damage. I just hope you guys don't gudge the rest of us drivers like that for the crap he did.

That is exactly what I was trying to get at!!! I just couldn't get the wording for some reason...

I know over here in Ontaio, there is so much traffic and crap , they are so stupid and cut the drivers off. What do you think we should do when we see you guys do this? For the most part we get up to highway speed and try to keep it, being hills and crap and yet there is so many drivers think its our fault that your in our blind spot or anything like the such. You should realize this to. When you being the vehicle coming up behind a big rig, CAN not see the truck drivers mirrors, how do you figure he can see you? There is so many blind spots on a truck and we do our damndest not to hurt or squash the cars or suvs. You ever think your buddy might have cut him off. Just a thought.

Mudcrazy, the guy that ran me off the highway was in the wrong lane he was facing east doing at least 90km/h and i was in the lane going WEST doing the same, there was no way what happened to me was my fault as he was not only not in the passing lane (illegal to drive in except to pass), he was over that in into oncoming traffic.

As for my buddy, he was stopped at a red light, and the guy who hit him came up after my buddy had already stopped and had been stopped for minutes, when my buddy stopped, this guy wasn't even in site. There was absolutely no way that this truck driver didn't see him, despite the fact that my buddy was on an angle in the lane.

Yes, I do believe Ian, I have no reason to doubt him at all, he's never lied to me in the past and we're very close, we tell each other everything, I have no reason to believe he's lying this time.

theres something wrong with this whole thread. people are classifying truckers as if they are a diffrerent fucking race. they are just regular guys getting their paycheck. no they dont ram people off the road. Some of em are sick, ignorant, assholes but why would they cause an accident(they lose money)

I love driving trucks. I drive them for the farm and at a highschool course for getting my ClassA. They take skill to drive.

Stay the **** out of their way and ur all set. :3gears:

Well for sure that guy shouldn't have done that at all and put others in danger and I hope you got his truck Id and plate # thats all it takes to get the bad ones. But really, if your given a chance to get into a truck being a passenger, you will be amazed at the shit you see the others do. Don't get me wrong i'm not crapping on your party here. Sorry if it seems that way.

the daytime cab drivers(no sleeper) are usually the bad drivers, not to mention, dunno if its true or not/don't remember), but aren't the Canadian roads a little narrower up there, if that true, that cause of have your problems.

"without trucks, America stops"

You are just as likely to find an asshole truck driver, as you will an ass mechanic, or boss, or co-worker.

The truck driver may have seen your friend when he pulled up, but once they were both stopped, the truck driver probably couldn't see your friends car... Semi hoods are tall, the trucks are tall, cars are short, very short, compared to a truck. If your friend was on the opposite side as the driver (to the right of the truck) the truck driver probably didn't see that your friend didn't accelerate.
I just find the driver laughing part hard to belive... it may have happend, but I don't see why.

you guys can grip and whine about truck drivers all you want, but remember this:

If it wasn't for the truck drivers, NOTHING would be on stores shelves for you to buy. Trains can't back up to a store and make deliveries.

Ok, I'm not saying all truckers are bad, I'm just bitching about the one that nearly killed me, and completely fucked up my beautifully restored Ranger, and the one that took out the side of my buddies new car, and could have quite easily have killed him. I've just been hearing about quite a few incidents in Calgary involving Large, industrial, and Tractor Trailer trucks. Theres one here where theres a whole court case going on and trying to convict the driver of a Dump truck of three or four cases of manslaughter after he ran a red light and took out most of a family. Police reports say he didn't even touch the brakes until well after he had hit them. Tell me this guy isn't fucked. There was a woman driving a school bus here a few months ago, she came around a corner, and went into the back of a dump truck that was off far on the shoulder of the road, she tore the school bus apart and there were a few children killed in that accident, she got fired and charged for the accident, and if my memory serves me right she tried to sue the company that fired her because she claimed it was racial. There was no way it was racial, it was her driving on the fucking shoulder of the road that caused the accident, and I know that stretch of road, its a large shoulder too. And don't even get me started on the bus drivers in Calgary, if I could count the number of times I've nearly been hit by them running reds, or stop signs or just moving over when you stuck beside them with no where else to go. In the case today with my buddy, it was his car about 90% in the lane and stopped at a red, and the guy came up from behind him and drove into the driver side of his car (both vehicles facing in the same direction so the damage was directed forwards), my buddy said the guy was laughing at him, and in the case of my accident, the truck driver was over 2 lanes and into oncoming traffic, when I came up over a blind hill and had to make a split second choice, meet him head on or put my truck onto the shoulder, I chose the shoulder, and my accident happened after that point because of ice on the shoulder, but still, how do you not realize that your over on the far side of the road. Talking to the RCMP, they said the tire tracks were quite apparent after the point where mine were on the shoulder, so he knew I was there, he didn't even have enough fucking balls to call for an ambulance. I'm not saying that all truckers and large vehicle drivers are bad, I'm just saying that it seems that there are getting to be a lot more bad ones out there then good. It seems if you show up with a smile on your face that they'll hire you now a days.

I'm not bashing truckers, believe me, I rely on them every day of my life, I'm just bitching about the ones who can do something so completely stupid and try to get away with it. And for the record, I always give semi's a lot of room, I try to stay out of their blind spots as much as possible, and I give them as much room as possible, I know they can't stop quickly, and I know they can't swerve or make sudden movements quickly, I try my best to give them the room they need, I'm not one of these assholes that zip in and around them. I'm not bashing anyone but the ones who deserve it. It takes a lot to get a large vehicle license, and its been seeming lately that what it takes to keep that license is a smile. Sorry, I'm a little pissed off right now, I've had an extremely bad day and I've had a few rum and cokes, and its not mixing well with the Buckly's I have taken for my flu thing.

Well this topic can keep on going at this rate. You said the truck has better acceleration than your buddies car? K . First off, these trucks have the power to pull not to race. Most trucks are a 10 to 21 speed trans, and that includes a high and low as well as a splitter to help with the hills and such. If the truck did take off to match that of a car, i'm sure you will see him take off in 4th or 5th and the clutch doesn't like that crap if you know what i mean, and then you have to start cranking the gears and you still won't catch him. So?

My buddy is very particular about his car, simple terms, he drives like a "grandpa", he shift extremely slow, but smooth, he's always been the slower off the line with this car because of the end of his Crown Vic (tromped on it when the light turned green and a woman ran a red and t-boned him, that was about a month or so before he bought this car). Even still, for a trucker, and since this was a truck for city use they are to have the concave mirrors mounted to the front driver fender to allow them to see whats in front of them, this is just a case of him not paying attention. Also, when you have a sporty little red car and the light turns green and you don't see it go like a bat out of hell, you can kind of expect it not to be going, or moving fast.

Also, another side not to Mudcrazy, Have you seen how fast one of the newer semi trucks can go with no trailer? I was beside one at a red light and I needed into his lane, so the logical thing to do is to speed up and get ahead, right? the light turned green and I'm in a 5.2l V8 "sports" truck I couldn't keep up to this thing, I'd be guessing it was a 07 or 06, that I was up against. The one that hit my buddy was an 08.

Well on that note then, i'm sure the truck driver should have pulled over or if at the least made sure you were ok. But. Just on a quick note. Go for a ride with a truck driver for I don't know, maybe a couple hundred k's or so and you will get a real fast understanding what they go through. Not all are good and i know that as well as many others, but, try and see. It will shock the shit out of you and I'm not kidding.

I wouldn't be surprised at what they have to deal with, I see people cutting them off, riding up right beside them, tailgating them, and weaving in and out in front of them. I've seen people slam on the brakes right in front of them. I see a lot happening to them, also, I have 2 uncles who are large and heavy vehicle trained, and the shit stories they tell me about people doing to them (my uncle even put his dump truck into the side of a mountain to prevent rear ending a minivan that decided they needed to turn left right away, and slammed on their brakes, as my uncle had a full load of chipped up road). My aunt used to drive a school bus (before she had her accident and decided to go back to school), and she would tell me horror stories of what people would do in school zones or when she was stopped letting kids off with the "stop" sign out. I have heard many stories of the shit truckers deal with, I'm not bitching about them, I'm bitching about the ones that could care less about others.

True enough, i here what your saying for sure. Its just allmost like offroad it takes one or two and it makes it look bad.
