daily doubler build

lol. I didn't notice the tabs on yours. didn't really think about the fact that they aren't perpendicular to the axle.

I had hoped I could use them as well, but decided to just weld on a tab in the correct orientation. I'm sure it would've worked by using them, but the setup would be far from ideal and it would eat at me.

Got pulled over today for 'equipment related' reasons. The guy wanted to measure bumper heights, frame height, etc.

This SAME GUY pulled me over last Summer to do the same thing. I went rounds with him, he ended up pulling out the book for interpretation, etc. It was a 2hr traffic stop that ended with me leaving without as much as a written warning.

I told him today that we had already been through all of this. As of right now, after today's stop, I don't have any tickets. Without going into detail, I'm supposed to go to the station this coming weekend to discuss some more things about the truck though.

Wish me luck, but if I can't convince this guy to leave me alone, things could get bad.

I have been stopped twice so far. Tinted windows are my scape goat.lol Id rather take the $20-100 fine for windows than have him get out the tape measure or start looking at non DOT approved things like TREs.lol

Indiana doesn't care about any of those problems, well besides window tint. But I've never had a problem with my tinted windows on any vehicle I've owned.

Both times he's pulled me over for the sole purpose of measuring the truck. No way around it man. He's not looking for money, he's got some other beef with it.

He's probably jealous or just likes your truck and wants to look at it

I wish that were the case. I think this guy is pretty well ignorant when it comes to modified vehicles though.

I stopped by the station to have a chat with him today. I was sure to relocate my front plate and throw on my 'Moab Mud Flaps' before showing up. Those improvements made him happy.

Regardless, he had me pull into their garage and we went over the entire truck again. Made me unload bed, checked the tire pressure and everything. I think he was surprised how much shit was in my toolbox, lol.

Long story short, it was a 1.5 hr ordeal and I left with a 120 dollar 'fix it ticket' for the front bumper. He said even something removable would suffice, but I need to get it lower.

I'll gear my future mods to be more street friendly, but I'm still torn if I want to modify the front bumper. He told me flat out that I could leave it as-is, but he'll keep writing me tickets if he finds me.

Just leave the plow on lol

What about a stock bumper to just cover the current one like a the plastic bumpers on modern cars. Could clip in with the hitch pins or somthing

I'd make a complaint to his captain. Theres a record of him pulling you over, and staying on that traffic stop for 2 hours, and again this time. That's harrassment. Wish i had that guy do that to me, I'd have his a$$ busted down to school resource officer...

SVT - that's the general consensus with everyone else I talk to. I'm hesitant to pursue it too aggressively, because if you really start looking into it, there's probably enough 'wrong' with my truck to take it off the road; pending your interpretation of the law.

I have a court date in January if I'd like to state my case. I'll ponder for a while and go from there.

That sucks! I'm so glad i moved outta illinois. I've been driving mine everywhere and the cops just wave.

Heck if I were in your shoes. I would think about using a chunk of 2 inch receiver tube on the front and make a drop bar for a streetable bumper height. Build it nice and light, I doubt they have a specific specs for the bumper other than how tall it is.

Me being a retired fire chief, and working with LEO on a regular basis, and good friends with a couple, including state troopers, and also crossing that vehicle legal line myself, i can say I've been there.
While you can make road legal drop bumpers and lower frame extensions, as well as lower headlight & tail lights (if you're higher than legal limit), it can be a pain. You could install a pair of suck-down winches as well.
In all honesty, I'd go to court, do the fix it ticket, but state to the judge that you understand your vehicle looks illegal, and you not only have been stopped multiple times, but stopped by ONLY the same LEO and not another for the same reason. When you were stopped, you were detained for an excess amount of time (I'd state over 90 minutes each instance). Again, station records will reflect this to back up your statement. Each stop has resulted in no citations being given, despite the excess time in detainment.
If this cop stops you again, for the same reason, and no citation issued, be sure to politely get his full name and badge number, and then its time to see a lawyer...

Bray you need to call me after you get out of work. He can not have you empty that truck to measure it. That is the way you was driving it so that is the way he will measure it. The point to make with him is every time you see him are you going to unload that truck on the side of the road to measure it? Law also states he has to measure it on a certified level surface. I wouldn't even have showed up to discuss anything with him. He trapped you. Make him come find you next time and then call it in as harrassment. But anyway please call me I will get the vehicle book out and go over it with you.
