daily doubler build

A welded rear handles nothing like a Detroit....way worse and if you drive it on the street as much as you say you do you're not going to get much life outta them rear tires...

Yup, you're probably going to hate the 'spool' in your DD. But you'll love it off road! BTDT, awesome for a wheeler, not so much for a DD, since its free, go for it though.

The guys that play the hardest on here aren't putting on 400 road miles a week. (except for me) :thefinger:

They learned their lesson early. Why not take that 1000 arb money and buy a little DD? :thefinger:

Ps... I loved the spool in my DD. Take some time to get used to it before you go horsing on the hwy with it.
I drove it 100 miles round trip daily to work, for 2years. My tires lasted just fine.

I've got a little DD. Its on 35's out in the parking lot right now. :thefinger:

I'll get a DD eventually, but it will be relatively nice. I'm not going to drive a pile of shit just so I can afford to throw money at my other pile of shit that I will most likely be breaking on a weekly basis cause I'll have something else to drive.

The spool will be fine. It won't clunk or click or bang or lock/unlock. Predictable. Sure it won't want to turn as well, and my tires will squal a little bit in the parking lot. We'll see how it goes.

Street guys would rather run spools than Detroits. I've seen many discussions on it. The locking/unlocking drives them nuts. Its much more noticeable with a manual than an auto apparently.

edit: I thought there was a break at 4.88 for Detroit but I just went back and read and it says 4.88+ will require a little ring gear grinding to get the clip/block past it. No big deal.

And if there's no carrier break, I'm more tempted to just get the Detroit now, rather than having the welded carrier 'get me by' until I (potentially) regear in the spring. God damn indecisiveness. Who's got a quarter to flip? haha

got an iphone? there's an app for the quarter flip!! lol

just, errrr, send me that money and i'll make a choice (for my b2!)-- like tires!

Just get the Detroit then ya puss.... Make the call. Your dragging it out way to long. If you cant commit to a locker, how's your girlfriend feel about your future?:thefinger::icon_rofl::thefinger:

weld it!! jeeze you have a free carrier to di it with just weld it. then later on if you dont like it then get somthing else

I've got no time restrictions my friend. All a rear locker will do is get me into nastier situations, which will make my truck reach the end of its life even faster. haha

Its crazy more people don't research and make educated decisions when throwing around this kind of money.

I had a girlfriend for 7 years. 'Had' being the key word. :thefinger:

In addition to the added traction, the reason for getting a locker is to replace the weak link in the 8.8 which is the carrier. Welding gives me the traction, but not the strength.

I did my research... It went lime this:

There's no way in hell I'm spending what ARB wants for a locker.
I know Detroit's have been around and used in all conditions for eternity.
I'm not spending what Detroit wants on a locker.
I know I care more about off-road performance, and less about what internet people say.
So I welded both ends. And I haven't looked back. And I still have the arb money to spend on a set of real tires.:icon_thumby:

End research.

So should I box up that carrier? A welded carrier is stronger then a non welded one, one big solid mass. I could send you my 31 spine welded carrier with 4.88's on it if you wanna get crazy, I dont need it anymore and it is well tested.

I'm almost to that point. I searched hard for a Detroit last night, even had one in my 'shopping cart'. I just can't get myself to spend that kind of money right now, on something that I'm not 100% sure I want.

I thought if I don't like it I can turn around and sell it, but I'd lose my ass on it. Not worth the risk at the moment.

I'll take your carrier. I'll weld it up and toss it in. If I don't like it, then I'll still have my l/s that I could swap back in.

I think that's the way to go at this point.

PM sent. :D

Atta boy.... For your hassles I throw in a pack of gum, name the flavor. I can't imagine after watching you chew gum while concentrating wheeling, how much gum you Musta chewed making this decision...:thefinger:

wait, so you're going w/ an open diff now? decided to neuter the truck?:thefinger::thefinger:
