daily doubler build

It warms my heart to hear someone else bitching about things not quite turning out how they expected :icon_twisted::thefinger:

Welcome to the club, you can do quite a few things with the tools you have now. Sure it would be easier to have all the 'high zoot' tools, but the reality is you can get alot done with an angle grinder/chop saw/small welder. All those tools do is save you time, they don't make you better, even bendtech. Sure you can lay out some fancy design, but you're still measureing with a Tape, marking with a Sharpie, and cutting it with a chop saw.

I like how its looking right now, stay with it. Don't forget, we're not dealing with show trucks or $100k buggies here (well I'm not anyway), nor do we do this type of frabrication daily. So everything isn't going to wind up being perfect. It just has to work :icon_thumby:

VERY WELL PUT
i never really thought of it like that.

I'm lucky to have a fancy schmancy plasma, and a borrowed hyd. bender.... I dunno what I'd do with a proper notcher or mill/lathe in the shop. My project would never end!

Sorry for the rant guys. I think I'm bipolar. Today was a good day. :D

I like it more the more its coming together. I went ahead and bent another taller hoop, so its closer to the height I had originally hoped for. I like it. Notched the ends (took an eternity) and burned it in. Got it all primed up. I'll be in AZ for work this coming week, so I look to finish it next weekend. Just two more bent tubes, and two supports.

I like it, looks good. Are you going to do some tube coming out to the sides by the turn signals?

Yep. I'll start with a horizontal tube running from the stinger, under my headlights/turn signals, and around to my wheel well. Then run a support tube from the side of my frame up to that horizontal tube. If it too 'minimal' I may consider adding a second horizontal tube.

What is the black box under my pass. side headlight and can I remove it? Its throwing a wrench in my plans.

that box is where the airbag sensor is IIRC.....

like what ya done as well:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

looks good bud

I just looked into it. Its just a cover for the air intake tube. I already ripped it off. :D

Thanks for the compliments guys. Headed to the shop now to do some more work. Updates to come.

Hey Bray, man it has been a long time since I checked into this place, truck is looking great and I really like how clean the winch mount and center section of the bumper look. Good luck finishing it, and a loud hello from Oklahoma.

Justin

Thanks man, its good to see you back on the forums. I hope everything is going well with you.

I got it done for the most part. I may add a gusset here or there, and it needs painted. Gotta wire up my winch too. Anyways, on to the pics:

I made a fairlead mount like Kage made his, so it will bolt under the winch. Having it removable was necessary due to how tight everything is. If it were welded to the winch plate I wouldn't be able to get the winch out.

Bent up the horizontal bar and added the support down to the frame. Halfway done.

That's just primer. It will be gloss black when all is said and done.

Thanks guys. I always fear building something that is required to be aesthetically pleasing. I'm decent at building 'structures'. Not so much things that need to be pretty.

It achieved what I was going for. Houses my winch and is high clearance at the tires. The frame supports give the illusion that it's lower, which may help me on the highway. We'll see how long it takes me to get pulled over. haha
