i need help!! im trying to get my front diff out of my 97 ranger. its proven to be harder than i thought. so far, i have unbolted it from the beam, but haven't gotten much further than that. i need to get it out because im completely missing one of the spider gears and the side/other spider is so ground down they arent even making any contact anymore. by the way, do you think it would be possible to weld it like that? couldn't i just put some metal between them and do some beads? but yea, any help whatsoever on getting this thing out would be greatly appreciated. thanks:dntknw:

Did you undo the pinch bolt on the drivers side of the pumpkin? It's tucked in sorta by where the radius arm mounts to the beam.

You can see the spot where the bolt goes on the left side of the pumkin in this pic:

dont weld it. if you do it wont turn for crap. also if you grenaded the spiders, the debris has been chewed through the ring and pinion which means you will need a new set of gears.

to remove it you need to detach the drive shaft and pull the axle shafts out from the diff. i forget if they have C clips or not. if they do you will need to pull those too before sliding the shafts out.

There's a chance that the spider gears haven't been chewed up by the r&p. If it's a trail rig, I would weld it.

The driver's side shaft needs to come out, but the passenger side is c-clipped. Since the d35 doesn't have a "traditional" front cover, you'll need to pull the c-clip after you take the pumpkin out. The passenger shaft will split at the slip-spline.

I didn't suggest any of that in my first post because it's kinda obvious and pretty much a given that it has to come out. The pinch bolt, however, is easy to miss.
