so i got my exploder fixed, but i got the idea to grab a couple spare shafts for my 35. jw; what do i have to do to pull the shaft? heres what i gathered outta doing the work i did to mine.

remove the wheel
the caliper
pads
hub
outer wheel bearing
rotor
spindle

after that can i just yank the shaft out and stick a new one in? if anyone has any steps i missed plz speak up. if you have pics too id be interested in seeing how its done:icon_thumby:

thats pretty much it.. you wont be able to swap out the inner passenger side shaft at the pig unless you do a c clip mod.

hmm what kind of a mess is it to do the c clip mod? knowing the kinda luck i have the one that will go would be the inner shaft....:annoyed:

well i looked in the tech section, that looks very hard. im scared of skrewing it up. i havent done alot with diffs and axle shafts

its not hard at all! pull the front pig off the beam an remove the c clip.. then you get a spring an you can either do the inner or out spring mod.. i did the inner its CAKE!!!!!! if you can pull the brakes/rotors an hubs then you sure as hell can do a c clip eliminator mod..

thanks destroyer and mjjonesjr. when i get some cash from my next check ill try to do this mod and get spare shafts

yeah the c clips arent that hard to pull and change out for a spring. I got mine from an echo dealer here in town for about $3.

if your looking for a cheap price on axle shafts, try western auto salvage off federal. i picked up both side spare shafts for a d35 for 15$, cant beat that.

Getting the Dana 35 third member out is a bit of work...especially if it's your first time and many of the bolts have never been taken off.

If you take your time you won't mess anything up. The overall strategy is pretty simple.

It's real nice to have a c-clip eliminator so you can remove the passenger inner shaft quickly....but that shaft rarely if ever breaks as it does not see the operating angles as the outers do.

If it is the same as my 95,ranger, there is a rubber boot on the passenger side axle shaft, you can take the clamps off of that, and then just slide the the passenger side axle shaft out of the cc joint, just replace the outer shafts, that is what i did when i trashed the U-joint

It is the same, however you need to remove the axle shaft completely out of the housing to change the most inner u-joint.

I'll do that outer spring mod when I remove the D35 parts from my Ranger, as spares for my Exploder... And, while I'm at it, I'll clearnace the beams for the lift I'm doing later on!
