D35 Rebuild

Unfortunately i don't have my old D28 here anymore or I'd snap a pic while holding a D35 shaft next to it. Just like the rest of the D28's axle shafts, it was quite tiny.

Neither here nor there, I knew I tore a boot moving it around. I double checked it tonight and it turns out it was the boot for the driveshaft, axle boot is fine.

I picked up a set of 43133G Energy Suspension pivot bushings, instructions are pretty vague, anyone have any pointers?

The "shell" looks similar to mine (and hey, I thought I could reuse mine!?!?) so I don't see how when I remove the original shell and install the new shell with another rubber bushing between it and the beam how it is going to fit the same.

I used the Echo spring and a split shaft collar and still put it all under the factory boot.

As for the brake shields, I know the newer dual-piston style is still available, but kinda pricey. $70 per side when I looked.

I modified Explorer parts from the junkyard to fit mine.

Remember where you found the shields?

I know 95-97 stuff is hard to find in a JY, I wondered if earlier could be adapted.

My memory is pretty bad, but I'm fairly sure the earlier brake shields are to small around.

They were on eBay when I looked a year or so ago. Not now though. This place lists it and doesn't mention out of stock. http://www.sunrisefordparts.com/Genuine-Ford-Part-Number-F57Z-1214-A-p/f57z-1214-a.htm

Apparently it's a dealer part that is NLA from Ford.

The parts I used came from 95+ Explorer. They used the same caliper and the same size rotors. The bolt holes are in different places though. Also I had to cut a piece that sticks out off the middle.

I did find plain flat sheilds available aftermarket. They're supposed to go on the other side on the lug studs.. Might be pretty easy to adapt those.

Bummer, I hoped you had an aftermarket #.

Kind of a long shot, LMC has coil spring studs for 86-97 Rangers. What is different between an '85 and a '86?

I need one, I had both of them out my '85 5 years ago and bead blasted them and buttered them up with never seize so there should be no fight at all to switch them... or do I need to start fighting with my '86 parts truck axle?

Supposedly the Dana 28 uses the same stud, just flipped upside down. I used the D28 studs on my D35 after I destroyed the D35's taking them out and they fit. The nut I used on the small end (now holding the spring on) was a little tight, but it did go on. 1984 D28 to a 1995 D35.

Can't remember specs of the nut.

I later found on Broncograveyard they show them fitting from 83-97 so that gives me hope.

One side came out beautiful, the other side didn't play nice.
