Yes its kind of dumb. but a hard one to get a straight answer on. Ive searched the fourms, and even checked out a Toyota site, only cause it had the same question.

So i just installed a set of manual hubs on my ol exploder.. and figured id check the diff oil. Needs a change. Research what type of oil. 90w. Noone has any. even the ford dealer.

Also, does a 92 exploder have tracloc? do i need friction modifier? the guy at Ford said i did( same guy who doesnt have any 90w):dunno:

What are you guys putting in your front diff? yoda guys are puttin 80w90. Some ranger guys are putting 80w90 with no mention of friction modifier.:icon_confused:

Just want to get the right stuff. Any help or wise cracks will be appreciated.:icon_pepsi:

80 90 gear oil will work just fine. The only axle on your explorer that will have the trac-loc is the rear. Unless the person before you installed it on the front.

80W-90 is perfectly fine.
Friction modifier is only needed if you have a limited slip diff (NO D35s came with L/S, they only came in the rear). Check your door sticker or the tag on the diff cover to find out if your truck has a limited slip.

Edit: too slow :icon_twisted:
