Here is a really stupid question, and remember I really don't have much experience with 4x4's, I have a 92 Explorer that I am junking out, I have to leave the front axle on it so I can pull it to the crusher, BUT I'm going to pull the front chunk and the axles out to put up for later use, my Question is will the chunk and axles work in the D28 housings, My 89 B2 as far as I know has the D28.

Also I'm going to swap the 8.8 in to my 88 Ranger, and put the 7.5 in the Explorer so I can tow it. :)

If I can later down the road change the chunks out and the axles out in my D28, I'll pick up a 8.8 later down the road for my B2

Well I told you all I was dumb, I just looked in the tech section, and they show the d35 beside a d28, so No I can't use the D35 in place of the D28 with out changing all the I-Beams.

Dang it

Robert

Yeah I was about to say they won't fit, but you can swap the Ex D35 for the B2 D28. that way you'll have the better axle, and the Ex will still have one to tow to scrap.

Agreed, just throw your D28 under the Ex before you haul it off to the scrapyard. :icon_thumby:

I would but I don't have a 8.8 to put under the B2, the 8.8 is going under my Ranger.

I'm also sure the gears are different from the B2 7.5 and the D35, though I haven't checked.

Not sure I understand the holdup... :icon_confused:

Swap the Explorer's D35 under your BII, then put your BII's D28 under the front of Ex.
Put Ex's 8.8" under your Ranger, now put your Ranger's 7.5" under the Ex.
Now you can haul the Ex off to the scrapper.

When you do go get another 8.8 for the BII, just make sure the ratio matches the D35 (or if you're swapping ratios for bigger tires, then whatever ratio it has now won't matter anyway). Until then, you can still drive the BII with the 7.5" rear in it if you want (in 4WD too if the ratios happen to match).

Whats wrong with the Ex?

I checked the ratios don't match, and I can't have my BII down as it's my DD for now, till I get the Ranger fixed and running, and that's going to be awhile, as I'm going to save up for a gasket kit and a new high flow oil pump, for the engine, and I'm also going to fix the rust in the body, and have it painted and looking nice, I just don't know what color yet.

trust me if I could swap out the front ends, AND the ratios where the same I would, but on the other hand, I don't do any hard wheeling.

Robert

thing is,the gears matching won't matter unless you are in 4x4.so swap in the 35,then use the b2 in 2wd until you find gears for the rear to match the front.
