Cylinder number & sound. Can you really tell?

I think most factory turbos dump back into thr intake, shouldn't really hear much from a blow off valve.

But you can hear them when they drive by. My wife had ecobooat escapes since 2014 and my son has a focus st. Same ecobosst engine and you can hear them when they go by. They just arent moud like the honda kids who do that on purpose.

And i wish motorcycles had to have quieter exhaust. When those guys go hy and rev the engine under an over pass or in a tunnel, i want to swerve and run them over with my truck. I hate that loud popping bs harley has for exhaust

My bike-riding buddies all say that "loud is safe" because they know most people are not paying enough attention to see a motorcycle, so they hope they are loud enough to be heard by the doofus who is trying to text at 70 mph.

Its generally pretty easy to tell a GM V8 from other V8s, and all V8s except for the few flat plane crank examples are easy to tell from other engines. Most of the even-firing engines (4, 6) are hard for me to tell apart from just the exhaust sound, except for anything with a fart can which all fall into the category of "idiot".

4/6/8 are pretty easy.

10's are weird, the only 12 I have heard was in an airplane so not much to go by.

Starters though, 70'/80's GM, 90's GM and early mod motor I can pick out of a crowd.

Ford mod motors sound wicked good. I put a kooks full system on an old crown vic I had 5-6 years ago and damn did that thing sound good for a boat.

I'm definitely in the 'loud pipes save lives' camp.

Sure... it WOULD be safer and less of a public nuisance to just drive a nice quiet car/truck... but not nearly as fun... and the public is just a nuisance to ME anyways so 🤷‍♀️ lol

They do. I just had straight pipes and turndown after the cats on my 5.4 F-150 and I loved it.

Coyotes have their own sound too, kinda easy pick out in a parking lot too.

I can generally ID a 4/6/8 from each other based on exhaust note but I couldn’t narrow it down more than that. I haven’t heard enough 10 cylinders to say that, that is a 10 cylinder other than to know it has more than 6. As far as I know, I’ve never heard a 12.

You've had to of heard a v12 at some point..

At least seen a car with one drive by.

Long tube headers are a game changer or any engine. They will completely change the sound, even if the rest of the exhaust is similar to stock.
