I recently found out my exhaust valves are shoot ...an seeing how my knowledge of motors is not that good I need to ask someone what's the best way to go about fixing this problem can I repair them myself or will it be cheaper to take mine to a machine shop or to just buy new ones? Any help would be great

I'm gonna recommend replacement heads pre-assembled in this case. Check ebay for rebuilt parts (probably from Odessa) or local junkyards for used ones.

I'd seriously wanna know why valves are bad on an 04. Run with no exhaust? High miles?

2004-2006 3.0l Rangers could have defective exhaust valve seats

If its DIY then call local machine shops and ask for the price of a valve job, including new valve seats, also time frame
Machine shops don't pull the heads, or engines, they rebuild those parts, mechanics or YOU do the grunt work and drop off the parts

Then price out a new set of heads, complete,(includes installed valves)

Then you make the decision
Machine shop might be a week to 10 days from when you drop off the heads, to get them back

New heads can be on hand so you can remove and replace the old heads and be driving in 1 to 2 days
Heads are HEAVY, so include shipping cost AND return cost, new heads usually have a CORE charge so you have to send back in your old ones

Swapping heads is a job a Mobile Mechanic can do at your home, if its allow by your HOA, lol
Its Free to call a few and ask the price

My buddy just redid a 4.0, old heads needed a valve job but just the labor and parts on that were very close to a brand new pair.

Warranty if something goes wrong will probably be easier if you have a local shop do them...maybe cheaper... I am all in favor of supporting local businesses but their labor costs are exceeding the cost of brand new parts in some cases these days.
