I have a 86 Bronco II with the 4x4 and the manual 5 speed. I believe I need to replace the shaft due to some serious vibration in the seat beginning at 45 mph. The ride is smooth up to 40 mph.The vibrations seems to be worst under acceleration. Anything over 50-55 is serious enough to make one think something is about to turn loose.

When I push in the clutch or place it into neutral the vibration is still there but not quite as bad. I have new tires that have just been balance. The front end is smooth as silk.

I probably will have a shaft made using the "U" joints on each end instead of attempting to repair this one.
I have been told to take the measurement from flange face to flange face with the vehicle sitting on the ground. Is this the correct way?? The length I came up with is 33 15/16, does this sound correct??

I am brand new to this Bronco thing!!!
Any help will be appreciated.

That's how you take the measurment, flange to flange on level ground. As for your measurement, I cant be sure but mine was about 32, but I have an auto trans and it's a different length than the manual in your 86'.

Thanks for your reply. Just wanted to let you know that I found the problem with the shaft. Someone had removed and replaced it 180 out. Smooth now, right on up to 70++ :icon_cheers:
