Custom Intake Question

Okay to you guys that built a custom intake. I'm looking at building a better flowing intake with an open element filter. I'm stumped right now for what to do with the MAF. What did you guys use for a MAF housing that worked on your truck. My truck is a 2006 sport.

Since the 04 and newer 3.0's had the MAF integrated into the airbox lid, the only thing you can do is cut the MAF off and make a mount for it out of sheet metal or something. You may be able to use a MAF from an older 3.0 that wasn't molded to the airbox, but I'm not sure how different the wiring is.

Stmitch, I have the ability to pull the whole sensor to be able to change the housing. Would the older 3.0 housing be compatible with my newer MAF?

I have no idea. I'm not sure if the diameter of the housings is any different (the 04+ MAF looks smaller in pictures to me) and I don't know how the newer MAFs fit into the housings. You'd be the first person I've seen to attempt it.

Okay, I have a buddy with an 01 with the 3.0, I'll get with him and play around with the housings a bit, I'll report my findings. Worse case scenario is the parts are incompatible or require modifications
