Custom Explorer Chassis Build

lol thanks I really appreciate the comments as well as the owner of the truck. He has the links to all the forums its posted on and has been keepin up on the comments!

Update: since I didnt like how the Heidts crossmember brackets looked I decide to cut some new ones that looked better out on teh cnc. I'm still debating on if I want to plate them or not. I also pulled the frame off the jig and brought it out side for some current full pics. I still need to adjust the rear control arms to get some rear camber. Right now its way positive.

I have a question about the rear sus arms and the positive rear camber. Is there an upper control arm that will mount to the spindles? If so won't that help with the positive camber adjustment?

no upper arms, and as stated it has positive camber because I have the lower arms adjusted all the way in. They just need adjusted out some.

The no upper arms thing is really interesting, I have never seen this type of rear end before. So the half shafts act as the upper arm? It is really neat stuff, it just blows my mind.

Update: I have all of the shear load gussets tig welded to the outside of the frame. Only a couple pics right before I cleaned up.

awesome welds man, i wish my tigs were as pretty as yours

Yea It's basically like a Jaguar IRS just built up more.

the rear end in my dad's xj-s is built just like that and i never understood why. whats the benefit?

Something about that rear end just makes me drool. I can't wait to see that thing running!

thanks for the comments everybody. I really dont have an answer on the Jag suspension design though. I just know this rearend is beefy and can take some power. But If I was to do another IRS I would like to use the cobra/ markviii, tbird rear.

When can you build me a boxed frame for my ranger lol? Very nice work man, you definatly have a skill with that welder.

As of right now I'm pretty booked up with large work untill the spring. I have some designs and prototypes I'm going to start on after this is out of here. I am also working on some things to speed up production in house. And I wana get my truck finnished up. if your serious about it shoot me an email to brian@illusivefabrications.com to discuss the project.

I have also had some people on forums ask about my CNC and here it is. It's a Dynatorch CNC plasma system with a Hypertherm 1250 plasma. It's an industrial system with servo motors. Heres the pics I have from my old shop of it.
Heres a couple vids of it as well.

Just a comment on the design of the rear end. The idea is to have as little unsprung weight as possible, notice the inboard disk brakes. these rear ends look impressive in the pictures but you really have to see them live to fully appreciate them. This is a really impressive build and the videos of some of your machinery has me and I'm sure a few more on here drooling all over their keyboards.
