Really want to install a custom exhaust that would sound mean. Any suggestions where to look for? Has anyone done this before?

Thank You in advance……..

i have a used 2 1/4 magnaflow xl muffler that i had on my truck. sounded nice. sell it to ya cheap. also have a new 2 inch muffler.

Right now I’m just trying to look into ideas and options. But yeah man, I might take you up on that later. Thanx

i would go get a tube header of a 90s 2.3.and i can tell you now if you punch out the cat or take it of it will make it loude no mater wut muffler you go with.i have a 88 2.3 i got the tube header going to 21/2 pipe with hy flow cat and flowmaster 40. i think its mean and deap not ricy.its loud (to loud).i tryed a edelbroke rpm and a dynomax ultra weld thay sound good but to loud with out a cat.and glass pack sound like shit!!!rice rocket

i have no cat and my truck sounds sexy! its nice and deep and not loud at all. I am runnin a flowmaster 50 (not 40) with no cat. I would reccomend the 50 over the 40 if you dont want to be obnoxcious.

get the factory tube style shorty header for the 2.3 from a salvage yard and also get a factory shorty tube style header from a 5.0 preferably from the drivers side so there is no egr bung on it(if you can get away from running the egr in your state). now take and cut the collector off the 2.3 shorty header make sure to leave about 1 inch of collector so you have something to weld it back together. now take the 5.0 shorty heade and cut the collector off of it and weld it to the 2.3 header and then you can make a down pipe that will go to 3 inch (2.5 if you want) and run that to a flow master or dyno flow muffler. do not forget to weld a bung on the new down pipe for your O2 sensor. i would suggest to you to run the exhast pipe out the rear of the truck since running it out in front of the rear tire makes it really loud (been there done it take my word for it it is loud as hell) if you want to get fancy put a y pipe in it somewhere and run duals out theback that would mess with a few folks lol i dont run a cat and have a worn out glass pack so i basically have a straight pipe and it can be heard. good luck and get a good set of speakers ha ha

I put straight pipes on my 2.5 Ranger, it isn't too bad... It does kinda sound like a pissed off bumblebee though, lol... I wish I would have gotten some type of muffler though... Also, don't gut your cats, it's illegal, and pointless...

my original piping after the muffler fell off a while back so....i ripped it all down along with the muffler and got a (2.5 or 2.75) i cant member, piping and ran it out in front of right back wheel with a turn down that points outward and its pretty damn loud, its a unique sound it growls in the high rpms and sounds like a tractor in the lows, its also pretty damn loud inside i have to turn stereo waaayyy up to hear it lol, i still want to pull a header from a 90s ranger and put a flowmaster or something on it after the cat also, and i might gut the cat but im undecided still.

my 92 2.3 had a plugged muffler and no cat, from the header they welded 2.5 inch pipe on, underneath the trk where the flange for the cat to go was i cut that off w/ a torch, installed two fart cans in line (welded together) and tied them to the crossmember. i call it thumper, there isnt a real exhaust note until decel, just thumps (cruising at 60 sounds like a helicopter is flying next to you from the thumping) wierd and dif but i like it.

hey got to working on the noise machine and put a 3in flowmaster 50 on this weekend and put the exhast out the back with 3in now it sounds like half a mustang lol lol

heres what mine looks like

Mine sounds ok, its jsut the 92 header a piece of pipe to a cherry bomb out the side behind the pass door. but Im having lotsa fuel probs with no 02 sensor.

yea o2 sensor is deffinatly needed, when i did my turbo, i used an angle grider and cut the bung for o2 and EGR out of my old tube header and welded them into my downpipe. both EGR and o2 are well needed to keep a well running truck.

mine gets horrible gas mileage like i mean 15-18 mpg, lol idno wtf is wrong with it i think its got screwed up timing or a fuel problem
