Current overload?

Hey folks...

I added two 130 watt KCs to my Ranger about a month ago. When my truck is idling with them on, sometimes it starts to "bogg" down and the amp meter starts bouncing. If I lightly tap the gas pedal, the needle spikes then nose dives, the lights also dim when this happens. Is it pulling to much current? Its a 98 and the alternator has about 50,000 miles on it and its a higher wattage alternator then stock, the battery is about two years but was the biggest battery I could fit.

It was a advanced auto alternator... Could it be time for a new one?

Thanks for any pointers!

alternators are designed to put out their maximum power rating at or above 2,000RPM or so. its not uncommon for a minor voltage drop to occur at idle...especially when running high draw items like aftermarket stereos or auxiliary lights.

that said:

what exactly do you mean by the alternator is higher output than stock? whats its supposed rating?

most parts stores will test your battery and alternator for free, it wouldnt hurt to have them both checked.
