hey guys i get diesel power magazine, and this month they had a 98 ranger with a 4btcummins swapped in. the truck was lifted and was packing a dodge fullsize tranny and a ford 9inch rearend. i currently have a 99 with a 3.0 but i dont wanna use this for a swap. im thinking of getting a 95-97 extended cab 4x4 4cylinder or 6 with either a high mileage or blowen engine. i want the old style so i can lift the ttb front end easily and cheaply. im looking to find a 4bt cummins out of a frito lay delivery van or so, along with the turbo 400 tranny with it. i think the turbo 400 tranny which was used with the engine should be able to hold up. i can also get my hands on a 9inch for next to nothing. does this sound like a bad idea? i think i can get around $5000 for my truck, and this would be my budget for the new project. any comments? better ideas on parts etc. lets hear em...

i already checked that out but thanks kunar, i was wondering if anyone here had done a specific ranger swap. or any info

i know there is somebody, but i cant remember who. he is a member on 4btswaps.com and hes a member here on TRS.... but i cant for the life of me remember who it was.

lol its alrite. i thought this thread would have had more takers.i cant wait to do this im saving my pennies and gettin parts together

While the 4bt interests me, I have a greater interest in either alternative fuels in a spark ignition engine (wood gas, though it can be run in a diesel, too), or a Onan swap.

If I was to do a diesel swap, it would be to make something unique. And an Onan is sort of a cummins.... (Cummins owns Onan).

I should aslo add that it would go over well in my local area... I live 2 miles from the Cummins Jamestown plant... we mostly make the ISX line here.

I'm collecting parts for the swap, already have the ZF tranny and an 01' 4BTA. I'm looking to do the swap possible this winter or early spring.

this is one thing I'm interested in doing to my Bronco 2. I already have an extra frame to box, and a pair of D60s, but since I have so many projects already I haven't gotten farther than that, haven't even really researched it.
