I would like to know if its possible to get a conversion kit or something and bolt a fuller 18 speed tranny to a cummins 4bt and drop it in a 1997 Ford Ranger?
I had a 4bt to swap in (decided against the weight) and it's a bit of a squeeze. I work daily around the tranny you've suggested and can honestly say that the engine/tranny together are at or nearing the rangers WHOLE payload. Not to mention it'll barely fit between the frame rails, and you need an air supply to be able to split shifts.
yeah, that would definetly be one heavy ass ranger. and finding the room for that tranny, makin a lot of custom brackets would be a pain. this would be cool, but would be a pain and a waste to be honest. and the torque produced by the low gears of the tranny would snap the rear axle like a twig.also, you probably woulnt even use the first 6 gears cuz there so short and the trucks so light..
