I have the interior out of my 87.

As background, I just finished putting an M5OD in. Truck originally came with a 4 speed. P.O. put in an automatic. I took out the auto.

Anyhow, I'm on my back under the dash wiring in the clutch switch.

Noticed that the cruise appears to be some sort of add on. There's a stalk on the LH side of the steering column.

Was going to wire the clutch switch into the same circuit as the brake switch so the cruise would shut off when the clutch switch activates. Then I realized the brake lights would go on every time I pushed the clutch.

So, I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to wire the clutch switch into the cruise, but I don't see any labelling on any of the cruise components.

Was there a dealer-installed cruise from Ford, and if so, is there any way to find a wiring diagram?

Or is it likely an aftermarket setup?

Some more details.

It's vacuum-operated.

There's a large actuator box on the inside of the driver fender. The way it's bolted makes it look like it was made to go there.

Under the hood is a black wire that is grounded to the coil, and a blue wire that looks like it used to be attached somewhere, but is now hanging.

Under the dash are two reds, a yellow a green a purple and a brown. The brown is hot. The purple gets crossed with one red at the brake switch, the rest of the wires go to the control stalk on the steering column.

Any ideas where the blue wire should go?

Well, what I'm dealing with is shown on this Jeep forum...

They couldn't figure out where it came from either.

Also one on this Geo Metro forum

But he got it out of a junkyard, so doesn't know what kind it is either.

There are no manufacturer markings on it.

Since I don't even know if it works yet, I'm going to pass on trying to wire in the clutch switch. Just have to remember not to push the clutch if it does happen to work.

I assume the blue wire goes to the coil somehow - that's the only thing that would give a signal under the hood within the length of the wire.

I must have some aftermarket setup.

In case anyone comes across one of these, I did find this page.

http://www.the12volt.com/cruisecontrol/cruisecontrol.asp

It seems to describe my system. The 10 dip switches are set as I would expect them to be based on my truck.

The page doesn't specifically state so, but it infers this is a Rostra system - probably an early one.

Looks like the blue wire can go to the coil. I need to do some more research as to exactly where it goes. I believe it is a tach signal.

My stock clutch switch is NO and, to make the switch work with the cruise, I'd need a NC. In the future, I may wire in a little relay to convert the NO to NC. For now, I need to verify the thing works first once I get the truck back on the road.

You could get a factory triple clutch switch from a wrecking yard, but I don't see that as a "have to have" if you are aware that it is not there :)
