I am embarassed to post this but I accidentaly crossed plug wires when I installed new plugs. When I started my truck (2006 Ranger STX 3.0, V-6 VIN U) the truck spit and sputtered and I immediately realized what I had done. I placed the wires in the correct position, went to restar. The starter whines, however; the motor will not turn over. I retried a couple of quick starts, and stopped immediately as I do not want to cause further damage. I guess I am going to have to concede to a wrecker bill and whatever damage I may have caused. Anyone have any ideas, or anything I can try at this point? Careless mistake on my part, I know but I have to move forward at this point. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Don't feel too bad. You have a situation here that we like to call a "cluster****". It's a technical term, little used outside professional auto tech, that is used to describe a situation where someone screws up one thing and something else completely unrelated breaks. A lay person might call it a "coincidence".

The starter solenoid itself has probably failed and isn't kicking the drive out to engage the flywheel. Try it once and mark the belt someone just to make sure the engine is actually turning.

Starter issues on the 3.0 OHV are common because the idiots that designed the engine thought that right under the oil filter was an OK place for the starter. Then they get oil in them every time the filter is changed and that isn't good for the starters.

I tried that and no, the engine will not turn over.

Tap on the starter with some wood or plastic. Check the lugs for clean and tight. Did the battery die ? The misfire jarred something loose or hung something up, is my guess.Check stuff out like voltage and ohms with a meter before condemning any parts. Please post follow up. :icon_thumby:
