Hello,

Just found these forums, alot of excellent info here :icon_thumby:

I have a 93 Ranger Supercab, 4.0, AT. It has 96,720 original miles. A couple of nights ago on the way to work doing about 55 mph I get this really loud BANG and the back end of the truck felt like it jumped a foot off the ground!

Had it towed home, then the next day I began looking for the cause. I removed the diffo cover..........

The side gears also lost a couple of teeth and you can see the crack in the carrier. Pulled the axles, they look fine. I think everything else is ok. Tomorrow I'm going to give the old "stuff some rags in the gears and turn it" method to remove the carrier assembly.

All due to one little bolt :annoyed:

I'm in the process of locating parts ( California, SF bay area ) but for some reason it's turning into a major chore. A local truck wrecker wants $650 for rebuilt rear end.....and thats without axles!! They said they would rebuild mine for $800..... :icon_confused:

Any ideas/suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

nice one!!! lol.

IF its just a stock gear axle you can beat that price with a used axle if you have a pull it yourself yard around you. pick a part is like 100-120 for a axle drum to drum. just look for a 93 and up rear end, as they are slight bit wider than the 92 and older rear's.

Also check craigslist for some one parting out a ranger........

Look on the bright side, most people break those bolts when the try to remove them, yours came out by itself!

Wow, super chomp!

The bolt in my front axle backed out a while ago, thought it was my brakes locking up because it was only happening when I stopped, back up maybe 4ft and it worked fine. Then, after spending a good chunk of the afternoon in a snowstorm tearing into the brakes, I noticed it only happened when the hubs were locked.

If the ring and pinion are good, just pick up a carrier, up here at the local u-picks, a carrier is $50 no matter what it is, full axle is $150.
Look for an LS, or locker while you're there.

Ken.

Picked up a complete rear end with the same gear setup as my original (308 8.8) for $450. It even had better brake drums and shoes than mine.

Installed it last weekend, runnin' good so far :yahoo:

Loc-tite is your friend. Most poeple end up rounding off bolt making it all but impossible on getting it out. Don't use 12 point wrench, socket or open end wrench or you be sorry:bawling::D

450 I could have sold you a complete 2004 4.10 trac-loc far cheaper :D
