Creaking suspension

The front left corner of my truck creaks and groans. Problem is, I know next to nothing about suspension systems and I really don't want to pay to have it looked at or worked on. Is there any particular component that is the most likely culprit (spring, shock absorber, etc) and can I replace it myself? I'm fairly mechanically inclined, just not with suspension work. And will I need to do both sides or can I get away with just replacing whatever part is bad? Thanks in advance.

To diagnose a creak or groan, you need to start with a can of PB Blaster.

Doing it one at a time, spray any spot where two pieces touch, drive it. See what makes the noise stop. Also, start from the bottom up.

If nothing makes it stop, grease your ball joints and tie rods.

That’s a great idea. Thanks!

My guess is that a ball joint or a tie rod end is on its way out. Go with adsm08's recommendations on figuring out which part is the issue so you can plan on getting what you need to replace it. Keep in mind, usually, whatever is going bad on one side, the other side isn't far behind. While not necessary to replace the same part on the other side, while you are doing the work and have the tools out, it isn't a bad idea.
