Got some more work done on the pile today. finished cutting the engine crossmember out, god that thing is stupid, what was ford thinking its welded bolted and rivited... stupid I would have just welded it :icon_welder: anyway got that crap out of the way and started to make one of my own with more clearance so the 60 diff doesnt hit it ( cutting it like some people was not an option with the 350 going in) so I had some 2 x 3 .250 wall tubing figured that would be overkill and said why not.
here is the hole all cut out ( god I love my plasma cutter)

I mocked up a half ass of a design with some 2x4s I had laying around

Got it almost done with the 2x3 .250 wall tube

Some clearance shots. its back about 3 inches and up about 3 inches should give me plenty of room for the 60 diff truss stearing and links :icon_confused:

Still need to tack weld her up add in a guset on the bottom of the frame then pull it out and weld it up good put it back weld it in and then start boxing in the frame tie it all together
lots of welding :icon_welder:

Got the motor off of the frame. need to mock up a engine crossmember to raise it up so my diff doesnt hit and box in the frame. pics to come.
crawlin91 do you have a plasma cutter?

nice, good to see some progress. nope, no plasma yet... powermax45 soon.

well the 94 stock 4.0L engine puts out about 150 hp not bad and the 97 350 5.7L engine puts out almost 300hp straight from the factory... 150 hp and 42inch tires wouldnt go so well even with 5.38 gears. now pushing 300 hp and 42s should put some power to those wheels and get the wheels spinnin.

Got some more done today not much but something. motor mounts tacked up tomorrow I should be able to get it done and then put the frame back under the truck and see where everything will line up. still need a bellhousing to mate the 350 with a sm465. hopefully in a few weeks ill have it under and get the motor running.

oh it will turn the tires alright 300hp+doubler+5.38s=:headbang:

lookin good. ignore whoever hates on the chevy 350. i love my ranger, but the 5.7 will never let you down. my 96 chevy 5.7 hauled 5000 lbs of concret in the bed to the dump with no problem. like what youre doin.

Build looks great man. Chebby power and all, keep the updates coming!!

Didnt get as far as I wanted to day but got the motor mount all done and heavly tacked to the frame not fully welded but enought to test fit the motor. everything lines up perfect just where I want it. tomorrow if I have time i still need to tie the upper frame and lower frame to the motor mount then roll it back under the truck and see how she looks. Did abunch of measuring and I dont think I will have an issue with cutting my heater box down at all. but we will see. Damn Wife started bitching today saying she wanted to park her jeep in the garage before it starts snowing. :icon_rofl: Im pretty crazy with mixing ford and chevy and gm parts but parking a Jeep in my Ford garage NO FRICKIN WAY. :thefinger: I told her tough luck my frames got to be pulled back off to do 3 link and 4 link and box my frame in, build tranny mount build doubler (more like tripler) and mount for that drive shafts trusses ... ... I got the :icon_confused: look and she shut the door :icon_cheers:

anyway heres some almost complete pics of the engine mount

.... im waiting for my email from my phone with the pics to get to my email taking like 10 mins wtf

oh it will turn the tires alright 300hp+doubler+5.38s=:headbang:

well heres the break down of my crawl ratios.

Tranny 1st gear 6.55 2nd 3.58 3rd 1.57 4th 1
axle ratio 5.38
transfer case Black box 2.71 np 205 1.98 doubled together 5.42

crawl ratios
1st gear low low 191
2nd gear low low 104

1st gear low hi 95
2nd gear low hi 52

1st gear hi low 70
2nd gear hi low 38

1st gear hi hi 35

you get the idea lots of gear options from 191 to 35 crawl ratios not to bad
:icon_bounceblue::icon_cheers:

:icon_welder:nice clean fabwork on the crossmember, any updates?

Well this is looking terrific. Looks like a lot of us "old timers" are in the same spot as far as building our Rangers are concerned. Im collecting parts to do a build as well, KP60, 10.25, Im gonna be running 37's however and shortening the wheel base to 110", 4 link, 3 link... Anyways, I look forward to following your build since your gonna be about 5 months ahead of me.

Happy wrenching.
