crash in cali

All ralley and offroad racing is over populated the spectaters know were the course and usually crowed up the turns and the jumps so they can see the action. It should be stand at your own risk. Not the drivers fault. Misshaps will happen.

Exactly. The two most dangerous methods of transport are automobiles and flying (cars much more so by a wide margin). Cars aren't built to fly. When you have a flying car it is inherently out of control. This is an accident. This is a tragedy. Most of the fault lies with the people who decided to stand too close to the track and the organizers who did nothing to prevent them from getting there in the first place.

This won't end up well "The federal Bureau of Land Management was assisting in the investigation."

There's going to be more areas designated as "wilderness," and thus, less areas to wheel.

We're the government. We are here to help.

My BS meter is going off the dial on that one.

For the truck or the crowd?

The crowd, driver... anyone envolved. The truck can be fixed or replaced pretty easy... kinda tough to put a guys head back on.

That they had emergancy personel stationed there says something too... they might have known it was a problem area.

even on the news now they are saying the spectators need to take responsibility....at least some sense is coming out.

It takes a few idiots to ruin it for everyone. I bet these desert sanctioned "free for alls" produce a lot of desert litter. Those people don't look, act anything like Responsible adults.

Said here, it is a TOYOTA... doesn't look like one:

It really does NOT matter what it was, even if it was a Toyota, they heavily modify these things, it's like a Nascar Ford Escort. It just bears the body shape.

That seems like a non sanctioned event, "hey everyone off the track". Wow if you watch that video, look how close the pedestrians are to the track, let alone on it.

It actually looks more like a tailgate party than a sanctioned event!:shok:

A car plowed into a crowd that had gathered to watch an illegal drag race on a suburban road in Accokeek, Maryland, in February 2008, killing eight people and injuring five. The two racers were charged with vehicular manslaughter. Darren Bullock, 22, was sentenced to 15 years in prison; Tavon Taylor, 20, is awaiting trial. does anyone have a comment about this? is there much difference. should the driver of the truck be charged.

This has to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen left on this forum, and I have read a lot of posts. Comparing a sanctioned event to an illegal street race is completely ignorant. An illegal street race breaks numerous laws and regulations and has injured and or killed numerous people that were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Fathers driving home from work. Daughters walking home from a friends house. Single mothers waiting for the bus. By defination a sanctioned event has all the necessary permits, approvals, etc. etc. etc. to be put on within the scope of the law. Unfortunatually, when your course is a huge stretch of desert, it is impratical if not impossible to have walls or fences, to "protect" people that aren't smart enough to realise the inherent danger. Now if there was a bleacher setup in that area that the truck hit it would be a different story but all that I have read has indicated that there were not any type of permanent seating in that area. IMO if the event promoter places a bleacher in an area, it is considering that area safe for people. Hell, NASCAR puts bleachers only what 20-30' from 4000lb cars going almost 200mph. They even have a 20' tall fence between the track and the fans yet ocassionally a piece of debris flies into the crowd and hurts or kills someone. Anyone who has been around motorsports know that there is some risk at every event. Anything can go wrong and a resonable person would know that and exercise some common sense and self preservation.

The only way I could blame the driver is if he was on drugs.

I think California needs to ban this sport or have better standards. Or just BAN pre-runners altogether.
Or they could just like, tell the fans to stay back away from the track instead of being 4 feet away from the jump so this kind of stuff doesn't happen. It's not really the drivers fault for the people getting injured or the people dying. It's the people that aren't thinking and don't realise that this kind of stuff does happen and it can happen at any given time. All it takes is one slip up (like this) and there goes 8 lives. It isn't something to mess around with, it's something you need to be smart about.

Am i the only one that thinks that truck looks a lot like one i saw on here?

there was a thread a while back where somebody was asking to find some prerunner tires, and there was a build thread about a truck that somebody linked as an example of that tire, this truck looks just like that one, same guy?

Yeah, i heard it was a Ranger as well. Spectators were suppose to be 100 feet from the track. That was close enough for them to hi five the drivers as they drove past.

Oddly enough, the guy's last name was Sloppy

.

Is this a joke?

You can't ban a sport for something like this, all it needs is better safty standards.

And if anyone would like to help please donate here Fast Aid

This is a perfect example of Bureau of Land Management letting people do whatever they want on federal land as long as they have a "permit". No one takes into consideration of safety at any of these events as long as you drop the money to the government for the event. This event has been going on this way for years and this was going to happen sooner or later, no barriers, no flagging, no nothing! I hope Mohove Desert Racing (MDR) gets banned from having events!

On public lands? On public lands?

Expose (and fire) who ever okayed this.

Hideous violation of the trust of public lands in the beautiful Mojave!

Does the public pay to clean up the mess of plastic bottles and and beer cans after? - and who is paying for the emergency costs - helicopters etc?

The organizers are responsible for these deaths as there were no safety measures at all, no guardrails, no space between the spectators and track. NO EMERGENCY PERSONNEL ? What ? I've been to Little League games that can't start until the ambulance or doctor is present.

Who would promote this ?

Safety first or no dice.

Not only do the spectators deserve a safe event, the drivers do too. These guys will never recover.

Investigation needed!

Whatever your views of off-road racing are, we should all be pulling for the victims of this terrible occurrence and their families. A fluke accident that will, I'm sure, have huge consequences for the entire off-road circuit.

It makes me sick to think of how easily this could have been prevented. That blows.
