I was driving the 01 ranger its 4x4 and hit a small washout tonight across a dirt road going about 40mph with my left tire (like a quick pot hole) and now my steering is off a bit. going straight forward i have to hold the wheel a quarter turn to the left from center. it takes 2.5 rotations of the steering to go to full right turn lock from center and 3 to go to left full lock.
what have i done and how can i fix it? everything looks good from the tierods to the rack and pinion, nothings bent and it dont shake or pull when i drive it. i figure its in the steering column, like me holding the steering wheel made it twist where it attatches to the column but any help would be appreciated

Sounds like you bent your left tie-rod. Take it to your mechanic or a alignment shop.

lol i am my own mechanic just figured there might be something in the sterring column that seems like alot of play for a bent tie rod

It doesn't take much bend at all to throw the steering out a bit.

damn

well time to start replacing things again lol gotta love wrench time

I highly doubt it's the steering column. With rack and pinion you're not gonna get enough bump to tweak the column.

You most likely jacked up your toe. That's something you're gonna want to let an alignment shop take care of. You'll start wearin through tires real quick if you try and do it yourself with out the correct forms of measurement and tools.
