ello everyone. I have read this forum extensively over the last couple of weeks and found some good advice. But alas, I am at an impasse.

2001 ford ranger 3.0 non flex fuel, automatic, extended cab, vin code u,

approx. 125k on the odometer. Car running rough, never had a plug and

wire as far as i knew, replaced the plug/wire and worked a little carb

cleaner in through the throttle, cleared the misfire code, and replaced

the fuel filter. Comes back a few months later, hard start, rough idle

yet still drivable quickly went to no start and would not hold idle,

with backfire through the intake, visualized with intake tube off. Code

comes in misfire. Coilpack check came back bad firing on cylinders 5/6

and R/R. R/R (remove and replace) timing chain, with full chem soak of

intake manifold, superficial cleaning of injectors. Timing chain set to

6 and 12 o clock on the marks cam and crank respectively, piston 1 on

TDC on intake stroke. Put back together, new gaskets, with marked vacuum

lines and attempted to start. Battery failure and subsequent R/R. PCM

failing to communicate intermittently, then full failure, R/R with one

off of a 03 same spec junker, reprogrammed the PATS system. Still no

start, followed up with alternator and starter test, starter solenoid

fine, mechanically failed due to bad journal bearing. R/R starter,

reinstalled the alternator, still no start. Fuel pressure check revealed

bad check valve, replaced the fuel pump as it is part of the assembly.

R/R fuel pressure regulator due to fuel in the vacuum line. Managed to

get it to start a couple of times since, will die on idle, but will hold

throttle. Minor noise from the lifters, would subside after a few

seconds, possibly dry due to extended downtime of the motor. Rechecked

vacuum connections, and attempted leak check with carb cleaner when

running with no drop in rpm. Superficial smoking from the top of motor,

possibly due to cleaning agents on surface, fuel level is fine and oil

pressure/level fine. Initial starts will result in very pungent white

smoke out of exhaust, similar to a running fuel injection cleaning,

possibly due to residue from manifold cleaning, will clear up within a

minute. IAV at 10 ohms and reasonably clean. DPFE was out of spec on ohms, replaced, nothing either. I cannot think of anything else at this time. Honestly I don't

know how this truck ran before. I know this is long, but welcome to my hell. Thank you again.

Upon further research, anything make anyone think its a cam pos sensor?

shouldnt a sensor code?

ya it sounds like the crank shaft sensor. cheap like 20 bucks. and not all sensors will throw a code. both my car and trucks sensor went bad and no engine light or code. all they are is a over glorified magnet
