I've got one of these, but probably 10-15 years old. It's all worn down on the sides of the head where it strikes the chisels and it's getting awkward to use. I'm wondering if sears will still exchange it if the craftsman stamp is worn off the head? It was originally printed on the handle as well (according to my father, who bought it in the 90's) but it's on it's 3rd or 4th handle.

Well, I'd say there should be some visible proof that it is in fact Craftsman (CLEAR markings, etc)... otherwise its just another Chinese hammer...

I've taken in stuff that had no visible proof of being craftsman (even though it was) and they didn't give me any trouble.

I've never had a problem with Sears. Canadian Tire is a different story.

Edit; And it can't hurt to try.

take it in and see what they say. worse thing that happens is they say no...

Well, sears and craftsman are the only ones I've seen that use a curved top on their head. The others are either flat, or in a trapezoid type shape. I'm going to bring it in and see what they say, I wont be wasting a trip because I've got a 1/2" drive ratchet to bring in too.

+1 - even though the tools are getting worse, they're pretty good about their warranty - their new parent company Danaher is only interested in $$. Now, I've got to take my busted 10mm socket to the Snap-On guy.

if its craftsman, and its a hand tool, then they have to abide by their advertising.

unless things have changed, it not even worth bringing in a socket wrench. they just give you new internals for it and they are complete crap. but its been awhile, i just know we have a bunch of them around that work poorly

This isn't a problem that new internals can fix.

And if they do try that, I'll just take it into work and trade it for one that they have. Although I'm not sure if we sell Craftsman socket wrenches that aren't in a set. I might have to piece together one from old sockets.

A few friends of mine have taken broken ratchets in, and they were just told to take one from the shelf and the cashier tossed them in a bin under the counter. I think one day they went in twice; the first time to exchange the broken ratchets they had, and the second time to exchange the new ratchets again since they broke, lol!

Needless to say, they didn't give a crap.

i dont know if the sears is any different down here in so cal but i took in a 1/2 inch ratchet and a 3/8 ratchet and probably 20 different sockets that my dad and i have busted over time and walked out with probably 120 dollars worth of new tools and no parts or kits

I never had a problem with Sears tool bring backs. I returned two ratchets over the past 20 years. They just handed me a new one both times I walked in to the tool center...no questions asked!!! That looks like a made in China hammer...where is the Craftsman logo??

I had to keep looking at your photo...it is on the handle..I see it now, I was looking on the upper part too hard...my sledge hammer from Sears had the logo on the hammer part on the sides for some reason.... They should not give you a problem with a fair exchange, Bro!!!

Just curious>>>

========================================
If you've replaced the handle 3 or 4 times, why are you wantin to exchange it now?

They used to have CRAFTSMAN stamped in the head.

I couldn't tell ya the last time I went to SEARS for tools, as most places now are LIFETIME WARRANTY (Lowes - Kobalt, Home Depot - Husky, Wal-Mart - Stanley, just to mention a few), and the last time I took a socket that cracked to them & a ratchet that was stuck, they told me they couldn't take it off the shelf, they would have to mail it to me. I told them that didn't do me any good today, they said sorry, but that all we can do.:icon_confused:
