Is it possible to get a good reading on the compression tester if a head is cracked?

yes you can get a reading...the affected cylinder/s will have an noticable difference in compression....might be reading higher if there is still collant in the cylinder. think the general rule is if there is more than 20% change from the rest of the cylinders. and the the affected cylinder/s won't hold compression...they'll leak down, then you generally can hear a seeping of air.
 
Hmm i got the truck running good again. It overheated and cracked something cause the antifreeze was in the oil. Bars stop leak fixed that. I guess that shit fouled out one of the plugs cause i changed them again and it runs like a champ. the compression and leakdown is good too!:beer:

thats awesome! hope that fixed it. maybe it was just part of the gasket
 
I hope your not taking this truck very far with a barsleak fix like that on a pretty unhealthy rotating assembly. Barsleak is little more than a bandaid. its like sticking a piece of gum in it. Beater fix I say. lol.
 
i only work 5 miles from home so thats all she has to do! It works good enough for that!
 
I didnt add barsleak or anything I just change my oil every 2k miles. but it seems at times my oil pressure gauge jumps around. Also, I drive a lot more than 5 miles, your response was to the wrong person.
 
what else could it be if you leak coolant in the oil? I noticed it when I changed my oil it was a little milky.

There is a thing that happens in the winter in our northern friends engines...CONDENSATION.. Usually seen inside the oil fill cap. BUT it can also be seen in the oil when changing oil and filter. Many times the owner thinks he has seen a coolant leak into the oil pan.. However most times it isn't coolant but condensation instead.
If there is indeed a coolant leak the oil level will be much higher and after changing the oil the new level will continue to raise.. A one time event is always condensation.

Note to OP: If 'Bars Leak' gets in your OIL it will KILL your cylinders & bearing surfaces.
