My friend read somewhere some trucks come with more than one cat. I think my 2002 ranger has two. This possible? could i cut out the one and leave one and still be legal? thanks guys

Removing one is just as illegal as removing them both. I'm not even sure how you could remove just one anyway, since it's not until after the cats that the pipes Y down to one and enter the muffler. Maybe something could be done, but I personally have no interest in touching the cats so I don't know about that stuff.

i have never had any cats on any of my 6? vehicles. i know its illegal but i got rid of em anyway, and michigan doesnt have inspections.

on an '02 your gonna have a O2 snesor after the cat I think removing the cats is gonna screw with the readings and you'll probably get a code if not make the truck run like crap

looking under , my ranger, i counted 4 cats!!!! NO joke. it has two very small ones right up by the engine, these are used for start up and are made to heat up very quickly (idk how significant it is, but its claimed engines pollute alot more when they are cold, thats the reason for these small cats) and then it has two more bigger ones after the down the exhuast.

I believe thats right, you all are probably right. Im gonna do a further look over and my friends step dad who knows a lot look at it and see whats up

Cats are expensive. We all know that, and that's why many people were stealing them from people's cars last year. Now, if Ford could have saved a few hundred dollars per vehicle (saving them millions total) by not putting those extra cats on, DON'T YOU THINK THEY WOULD??? There's a REASON your truck has 4 cats!! Be considerate and let everyone breathe better.
I don't know what you hope to gain by cutting them off anyway. You're not gonna gain any power.

Is that what someone else referred to recently as the "precat"? Is that correct?

+76. There really is no logical way to argue that statement.

This thread will probably be closed, like all the others.

The cats were gone on my truck when I got it, nobody cares about that stuff were I live.

exbass i have dual exhaust and want to make it louder..so what and im gonna be a drifter here in half a year and my truck wont be in one state more than a few weeks tops so i wont be polluting a lot plus, one cat aint gonna hurt a lot. and jay id imagine that would a precat, im not real sure man.
