could use educated advice

Hi all , was wondering if anybody has run across a problem Im having now. there is a low pitched howl that pulses not constant ,and sounds like maybe a bearing is going bad? rear axle bearings are new and front are very tight no slop .one piece driveshaft,new tires,brakes,removed front driveshaft. still making that sound from 30mph to 45mph , at higher speeds it becomes faint . Can anyone shed some light on this ,only have 86000 miles on it?

Mine was rear u-joint shot,howled like you described,but clanked slightly when easing the clutch out.Just my 2 pennies.

Thanks skippy, I just jacked up the front A arm on the passenger side and took off the wheel , I did this before and found no problem , this time I raised up on the axle shaft with a bar and found out the lower ball joint has a lot of play . so Im guessing this is the problem. Now all I have to do is find out how to remove this scary thing !! If you know how they come off please let me know. Thanks

I just finished replacing the ball joints on my 99 4x4. If you would like details, the best I can describe, go ahead and PM me. I don't remember all the tools you'll need but I can pretty much tell u what to do.

autozone has a ball joint removal/installer tool you can rent. nothing that can be done with a decent set of tools and a haynes or chilton manual

you dont need that thing...a big socket and a good hammer works fine
