I have a 2wd 2000 Ranger and the lower ball joint on the passenger side is done. Anyone have an idea what the going rate to replace all of the upper and lower ball joints?? Plus alignment.

Thanks!

I know you can replace just the lower ball joints on these trucks, but you have to purchase the entire upper control arm on both sides because the ball joint is part of the arm..... kinda sucks!!!

I have been quoted around $1100 from both of the places I went to last week. I have a 99 4wd with the torsion bar suspension. The coil spring suspension may be slightly cheaper.

When it warms up a bit, I plan to buy the parts and do it myself

Vito

You have to be kidding! OE new upper arms are 113.00 each and the ball joints are even less. Id say do the work yourself and take it to be aligned at a tire shop after you replace the parts. Try Rockauto.com

I have the coil spring suspension, and the upper ball joints come out without having to replace the upper control arms.

I was quoted around $500 for all 4 ball joints, labor, and alignment.

Does that sound reasonable? I cant do it myself so I have no choice but to keep my mechanic in business. lol.

Well the ball joints cost about 20.00 each so Thats 420.00 for labor sounds kinda steep to me

Well, I wanted to put the MOOG ball joints and all 4 of them together are $230 for the parts alone.

As you can see in my post, that is what I am planning on doing.

Any recommendations on parts? The ones I am looking at are the Master Pros from O'Rielly's or the Dorman's from Advance AutoParts. RockAuto has Dormans as well in addition to Raybestos and some brand called Mevotech. I know most prefer Moog but I want to see thoughts on the other brands out there.

This truck is being used as a second vehicle for runs to Home Depot, driving in bad weather, driving to/in country, hauling stuff, camping, etc.

Call around and see if you can find a place that will allow you to buy the parts yourself and have them install them

True, but I am replacing the upper and lower ball joints on both sides. Those kits look like they are just for one side. or am I wrong?

There is only 1 upper and 1 lower on each side. I doubled the price of each piece for the total price.
