Hi all.

thank your for you attention but I'm trying to get answers to this problem, let me explain my experience:

Since four years I bought my father's Ranger. And him always used Bardahl high mileage oil. (I remember it was SAE 25W-50) Actually my truck has 94,450 miles.

But reading others ford ranger forums, and checking the repair manual from Haynes, I really take again the fact:

¿What oil must use my pick up? Here's one picture from the tickets cap:

The Mechanic automotive is telling me that I must to use the 25W-60 or 25W-50, but I still insecure of this.
Also I asked in a FB Ranger group and almost everyone told me I must to use the 10W-30 inmediatly, because the engine will be damage...

Thank you in advance.

Unless you have an oil pressure problem (unlikely, unless the pickup screen is plugged) there's no reason to run that thick of oil. I've never bothered buying anything but 10W30 for anything but diesel engines... I might switch to 5W30 but it doesn't really matter so I just don't think about it...

Running thick oil might not hurt anything unless it gets to freezing temperatures then you might risk breaking an oil filter, back in the day I saw almost 100psi oil pressure on a 200,000 mile 2.3L in freezing temperatures at 5000rpm while still cold... still no reason to use thick oil, switch to 5W30 or 10W30 and call it macaroni...

Hey Scott.

Yep, I've thinking about the weather, at my state the less is 46° and the highest 'til 58°... That's why I think some person are telling me that. Let me change to 10W-30, and I will answer you, thnks!

I run 5w30, 15w40 diesel oil in the allis.

I live in a state that freezes during the winter. Been running 20W-50 in my 98 3.0 for 20 years, just turned 170,000 last night (truck had only 10,000 miles on it when I bought it). Will continue running what works for me. I warm it up before I drive it in the winter anyways, and would never rev any motor to 5000 rpms cold. Never! I'll be changing it again here soon, have four five quart bottles of STP 20W-50 in my garage. I buy a bottle every time I'm in Auto Zone, in case it ever gets hard to find (which it is). I'll switch it to motorcycle oil if I have to, most motorcycles list 20W-50 in the owners manual, since it also lubes the transmission gears.
