Probly a very common question, but what is the correct operating temperature for a 2.9l? If it matters its a 88 ext.cab 4x4.cause mines running and always has run at the "n"on "normal",it seems kinda high! Any help would be great, thanx.

It most likely has a stock temp thermostat which is 195. So 190-200 is right.

But, if you are going by the gauge, the gauge could be wrong. You can try replacing the sensor for it or install actual temp gauges and see how hot it's getting.

A hot 2.9 is not a good thing.

thats where mine sits... right between the N and O in normal...

My haynes Manual recommends a 185 degree thermostat. Down here in South Texas I run a 164 in the hot summer as the temp really gets high if stuck in traffic on a 100 degree or more day.
