Coronavirus

Found out a week or so ago that my dad has the cooties, but is recovering OK at home. My mother is too stubborn to go get tested (ex medical professional and of course they know everything and don't have to listen to other medical people), although displays some of the symptoms. Her health would frighten a zombie

Of course she's making my dad drive her to her **&^%%^!! hair appointment, and crap like that, as if that's the most important thing on earth.

Needless to say the entire family is avoiding them. They're old, they don't need to be out and about, WHY the #$%#$%^%@#$% they are even leaving the house is beyond me.
Some people, like alot of us old farts, are just so set in our ways, it's hard to convince them of something.
Wife and I are the cautious ones, doing everything we can to stay healthy.
Group of people we used to associate with, all older, are just going thru everyday as if everything is OK...no masks, no precautions...gather every week in a group of 10-12 . All over 65-70, and almost all with underlying conditions.
Several have become sick, but the rest don't seem to care.

well from a whole family of people that work in/ for the medical community in the Indy area:

Mysefl (IT, not patient facing) for one of the largest hospitals in Indiana,
My Mother In Law (Dietician) for another large hospital system,
My Father In Law (Hospice Nurse, so front lines) for yet another Indy Regional hospital system,
My Wife, (Accountant, not patient facing) for the School of Medicine genetics lab and 3 newly spun up Covid testing labs

Covid is very real. Not only is it real, it is getting much worse. many hospitals are not only close or at capacity bed wise, they have staffing issues. heard this from my work, MIL, FIL... staffing is near critical. even temporary staffing solutions for Nurses and what not are hard pressed to fill the gaps needed. so, yeah it is serious.

On my wife's end, she was talking to the geneticists in the labs that she works with, and they are all cautiously optimistic about the new vaccines from both manufacturers. they have looked over the contents and test results pretty thoroughly and like what they see, so that is a good thing.

And speaking of those vaccines, I got an email this week from my work saying that those vaccines will be available as early as next week for the people working on the frontlines with covid positive patients. This email was confirmed by a news article on the radio earlier today. The vaccine is a two parter, you get one dose then 2 weeks later the second dose.

So... stay home if you can, wear a mask in public, as that will keep you from spraying droplets on someone if you sneeze/ cough etc. And for the love of everything Holy, wash your hands often and if you are sick quarantine your cootie laden ass!

Oh and another thing... yeah, I am seeing our government on local, state, and country using this pandemic as a means to control citizens and trample on our rights... so yeah I am worried about this mess all the way around.

i will be glad when all of this crap is over.

I doubt it will ever be 'over.' Gonna likely be seasonal, like the flu, with new strain(s) every year. Guaranteed there will be pockets of it all over the world popping up now and then, because it is going to be impossible to get every far-flung tribe vaccinated.

Question is, how do we deal with it? Shut the entire world down every year, for something that kills maybe a fraction of a percent of people (considering both known tested active cases, and people who were exposed and were asymptomatic)?

No, I don't know either. But at some point we're gonna have to put on our big-boy underpants and deal with it. Cause it ain't going away.

Safety glass in vehicles save lives
Seat belts save lives
Helmets when riding a motorcycle or bicycle saves lives
These are not even points that can be argued, you just need to look at the stats, there are YEARS of stats

We got used to the seat belt and helmet stuff so we will get used to the mask stuff

I still don't get why the SHEEP have to follow along with the no maskers, its like they can't make a good decision on their own, just following the herd walking off the cliff :)

I wear the mask and take all due precautions when necessary, but with all due respect, I'm not sure which group of sheep are lemming off the cliff.

The people who think "he's not wearing a mask, why should I!"

My wife and I just got back from the local hospital (parking lot covid test). One of the guys in my Sunday morning coffee group tested positive. Wasn't really near him and don't have any symptoms but better safe than sorry.

The "wolf packs" take the smartest path, the cautious path, predators just have to be smarter to survive.
So in this example they are the ones with the masks

The lemmings or sheep follow others along the less cautious path, off the cliff, they count on numbers for survival not individual survival, so "the other guy" principle, "it won't happen to me, it only happens to the other guy"

Wolves value every member of the group as important to the group, each individual's survival in important to the rest of the group, so they would wear a mask to protect the group

Sheep do not fathom that concept, they do value their self survival but not the survival of others in the group, so pay no attention to others walking off the cliff, and they would only question their future survival when they had fallen off the cliff and were on their way down, so they can't understand the concept of wearing a mask

my ex wife has it, and pneumonia, and also has a pacemaker. I didnt go to thanksgiving, partiality because I was working that day (who buys donuts on thanksgiving?, youd be surprised!) but also because my parents feel the need to include her in family, so I dont really want to be there if she is. Call me petty, I have my reasons, glad I wasnt there now.

I like it, the whole "side-effects" thing

Anti-vaxxers are big on that one
But often ignore the "side-effects" of no vaccine, like no seat belt or no helmet, lol
Dead or almost dead, now THAT'S what I call a side-effect and no "maybe" about it.....and you don't even have to wait 10 years for it :)

Massachusetts has now reverted every one to Phase 3 first stage where as before it was a town by town situation for the reversion of opening. I see me driving into Walmart's parking lot seeing a line and then driving back out again and going to a different store since my shoulder, back and hip raise hell in the cold and there will now be lines waiting to get into the store again.

I think for the vax I will await a while and see if there is a major issue as I have trust issues with everyone. To give mandate that people get a vaccination that has yet to have any long term testing done is a recipe for disaster but my experiences weigh heavily on my opinion that everyone and everything will just change/move and clobber you... Been run down by 2 different vehicles that were standing still and suddenly ran me over... trust nothing and be hyper vigilant is the only way to survive around the common idiot.....

Edit: for some context: If there is an accident that will just happen I am to the magnet for it. Ran over twice and crushed once and none were any fault of my own. They say I have paranoia issues... I say I'm fine the world is trying to kill me... :fie:

As a death care professional, I also believe that Covid is real. As I tell people, the regular flu doesn't kill 12,000 people in New York City in three months.
Likewise, looking at death and infection rates across the country, it seems the main predictor is population density. You can't social distance on the NYC subway.
The stupid cloth masks that get me into Walmart and the grocery store don't do jack squat. You want to stop the 'Rona you need to drop about $350 on a full face respirator.
I heard yesterday that our idiot governor who I'm told hardly leaves his house tested positive.
