My credo
Do your best to be your best.
I think everyone should pay close attention to the Coronavirus outbreak. This virus could kill millions of people. I grew up with a philosophy that "a little paranoia is prudent." With this virus a person can be contagious and not show symptoms for several days. Stay focused on washing your hands, keeping your hands out of your face and mouth, and avoiding crowds.

I'm pretty sure I heard on the news that someone flew into Chicago's O'Hare had it... so it's here.

Unfortunately...I deal with thousands of people weekly in Cook county Illinois.... Home of Chicago and O'Hare airport.

It is supposedly under control right now, but definitely a bit scary. Especially for those with a weak respiratory system

You are in a scary situation Uncle Gump. Be careful.

Even without this damn China born virus... In general... Chicago just blows. I want outta here in a bad way.

I heard it's from snakes... as someone who studied herpetology I am baffled. Viruses need specific cells to replicate so they usually cant jump far between species. Jumping from snake to human means something went horribly wrong. I'm glad I live like a hermit.

Enjoy your snake flu weirdos.

I learned in marching band to always breath in through your nose, it's got the best filtering system

As I was opening a package yesterday, looked at the label, yep!, made in China. I've got a feeling that it is a lot worse than we're being led(by China) to believe, and it may be some time before we begin to know the real dangers of it all

Why does China have so many earth movers working so frantically to construct 3 large hospitals in a week, specifically to attempt addressing the problem in one city

Tens of thousands of Americans die every year due to regular old influenza. The CDC estimates 80,000 American deaths from the flu in 2017 alone (a particularly bad year).

This particular Coronavirus is nasty, and lethal but I'm not sure that it's significantly worse than Swine Flu, or H1N1, or SARS, or bird flu, or Zika, or any of the other viruses that come along every couple of years and scare a ton of people for a few weeks and then fade into obscurity.

What is concerning, or at least curious, is that there's a very high security specialized lab in Wuhan that stores/studies some really dangerous viruses. A lab that has been rumored to have ties with a Chinese government bio-weapons program. This lab just so happens to be within a few miles of the supposed "ground Zero" for this virus.

A Virologist who helped fight SARS says Wuhan Coronavirus is 10 times worse than the epidemic 17 years ago. According to Dr. Guyan Yi, director of the State Key Laboratory of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the University of Hong Kong, the “golden period” to contain and eradicate the virus had already passed. “I have experienced so much and never felt scared. Most viruses are controllable, but this time I am scared,” said Dr. Guan Yi.

It's probably not from snakes, but coronaviruses can jump between species.

World map of confirmed cases:

Wonderful... 5 cases in the US... probably a red dot over Chicago.

This is a scary outbreak with confirmed cases here in the USA. My memory isn't always reliable but if it serves me more than one of the fore mentioned viruses stated by stmitch started in China. I could be wrong but if not the bigger question and concern should be "Why there?".
