Coronavirus

I suggest you read up on Trichinellosis and the various nematodes that are common in fish. Also, viruses are the primary causes of myositis. Viruses can even found in nerves with rabies being the most commonly known.

After the mad cow thing a packing plant can not take a cow that can't walk due to possible nervous system infections.

Rendering plants have kinda gone away too, they will hardly stop for a single cow anymore and won't touch a dead horse... which is really handy.

This is when I miss living in a little country town.

I'm about 20 minutes from DFW airport. It's amazing how many flights come in and out of here in a day. It's actually the worlds 4th busiest airport. There is a very diverse mix of people here, and I'm sure people are going back and forth to China. Far more chance of exposure here than in a little country town.

And the armadillo carrying the leprosy virus is a weird thing as well. I see them outside of my place almost every night. The dog and I stay away from them.

While there are some advantages to living in the south the north doesnt have armadillos to be concerned about.

It's near impossible to catch leprosy from an armadillo, it's not like they are all infected with it and they need to scratch you to contract it. You cant get it from just touching one. Add to that 95% of the worlds population is now immune to leprosy, and its 100% curable for the other 5%....

It's not something I lay awake at night thinking about because a few months ago I shot and gutted one. :yahoo:

I worry way more about rabies. I get chased down and bit by all sorts of things... that's why I got vaccinated! :taunt: I can eat all the rabid bat brains I want!

Our local grocery was selling chicken feet, professionally wrapped up in cellophane. I was looking at a package with a puzzled look on my face, when a very elderly black lady approached me. She could tell I was puzzled, and asked if I had ever eaten chicken feet. I said no and she gave me an education on how to cook it. Fried, baked, with or without the toe nails. She preferred to bake it until crisp with the toe nails. She said she would gnaw on the feet and then pick her teeth with the toe nails. True story.

I read an interesting article just now. Mad cow disease has killed 139 people. Ever. Like since recorded history began...

The flu has killed 100's of millions... 50 million in 1918 alone.

My grandpa goes nuts over chicken feet. I think it must have been popular during the depression...

Yes, and not one of those millions of flu deaths prior to the outbreak was from coronavirus. People get hyped up about anything. There are lots of different types of flu viruses, and all of them can cause death. The death rate depending on what virus varies from less then 1% to over 35%. IIRC the coronavirus is about 3%. You're more likely to get shot or run over by a bus as it sits right now.
One of my best friends died from the flu. I was very shocked at the time as I didn't know the flu was still a pretty big killer even in our age of medical knowledge. Granted he was a heavy drinker all his life and wasn't in the best of shape, but it was still a shock.

Edit; I just did a quick check on Google and saw this near the top. My memory isn't as bad as I think.

Latest numbers from John Hopkins:
Scroll out to see map of entire globe.

That link doesn't display that great on my phone, but if I crunched the correct numbers the death rate is 2.1%. About double what a "normal" flu is.
