Coronavirus

My parents got home this morning and figured best place to go shopping would be the commisary at ft dix. General public can't get in there so they should be well stocked...

Nope. Just like any other store.

I sincerely hope your practices towards this virus far exceeds your viewpoint.
I'm taking basic general precautions like washing my hands, and I'm no longer visiting my parents or others with pre-existing conditions/vulnerabilities - but I'm not really trying to avoid it myself. Should I wear a mask? Oh that's right, there are none.

Apparently PA has now closed all "non life-sustaining" businesses, though mine is arguably on the list to remain open. I expect we'll stay closed. Still, this thing has been moving through our society for weeks now and these measures are way late. I suspect it's far more common than the official announcements.

Except for the meeting for deciding what needs shut off, what needs left on, and what needs locked up at the VFW and going to and from work, I haven't been going anywhere. I have stopped to buy daily things on the way home but that has been about it. I did take the road bike out today (pedal) because I need to work off winter weight. I need to do something other than sit in front of the computer and work on airplanes. At least until it gets warn enough to start doing the Spring maintenance on the vehicles. Hopefully, all the parts will be on hand then. I haven't heard squat from Tasca on my torsion bar. So I'm guessing they might be closed and the suspension upgrade will have to wait. But other things can and need to be done. Maybe I'll be able to chip away at the retaining wall rebuild as well. As far as I know, the home improvement centers are still open.

I never got the swine flu, bird flu, sars, or any other of these random flu mutations that pop up... why exactly am I getting this one?

how about the Hong Kong flu? that was back in the 60s.

Don't think I had any of them either.

I did once get disco fever...

sounds like good cause to negotiate a trade deal with them.

This is a bit complicated by the fact that this virus is likely currently undetected in a large portion of our population. We only have positive test results from some cases to go by.

AN INTERESTING FACT FROM ALL THIS IS THAT IF YOU DO SOMETHING EARLY ON IT WILL HAVE A MAJOR EFFECT UPON THE TRAJECTORY OF THE EVENT.

From what I understand, people can be carriers and not have symptoms. Also, it is speculated that people in the U.S. had it as soon as November but since the healthcare system knew nothing about it, diagnosed it as respiratory stress and other things.

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s a very valuable comment pointing to the complexity of the situation. What we are currently doing in trying not to replicate what is happening in Italy as we "speak". They’re experiencing the effects of inactivity at a critical time.

Let me just say that I am not a virologist like Redfield from the CDC or an immunologist like Fauci from the NIAID or even an epidemiologist. These are the people we should be listening to!!!

I have been doing life science research since 1985 and this is unprecedented. What people don’t understand is that this is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Other recent COVID outbreaks like SARS and MERS or the H1N1 variants that caused the 1918 and swine event have been much more virulent and showed quickly while this seems to fester in asymptomatic individuals and then shows itself in the vulnerable population or generation. What we are currently doing is trying to essentially save a generation. That’s pretty blunt but it’s the truth. While it may not affect “you”, you may pass it to someone who passes it to someone etc who eventually passes it on to someone you love and who can’t fight it. I can hope we didn’t wait too long. It seems our "leaders" were more concerned about the economy that the people.

I would much rather look back a year or two from now and say, “wow, we probably got a little carried away with all the precautions”, than to look back and say “wow, if we only did more…”

Peace and health to everyone.

Ironically I'm in the opposite position. My job is arguably on the list of places that should close, but my manager wants to put out ads telling everyone we are still open.

Well there have been more than a few comments, in other threads, about kids always being on their cellphones, always texting, how its rude, socially incorrect, ect.....................
So they were ahead of the curve, social distancing 101, never meet up, just text 24/7 :)

Only us OLD GUYS think its weird, and we will be killed off, culling the herd to make way for the "smarter" generation

When my wife had the flu a month ago or better the dr initially thought it might be “one of the really bad viruses going around”

They never tested her for the flu, when it didn’t want to go away on its own they said it was probably influenza b and treated her for that. But to me in retrospect it sure sounds like there was some weird bugs going around drs couldn’t Id... but I am by no means an authority on it.
