ok firstly - can someone please explain in good detail or provide links, disgrams, etc on how exactly the cooling system works? this would me graetly.
But OK -here goes:
Drove my truck home from work yesterday - everything was fine, no overheating, no weird things happening.
I get home, hop out and am walking into my house when I notice a dripping liquid coming from the FRONT PASSENGER side of my truck (I have noticed small drip spots under my truck before, but this was a puddle)
I popped the hood and started to look around - the front, passenger side is all wet and something is leaking - was still in my dress clothes so I didnt poke around too much. I shut the hood and now the liquid leaking out looks like someone took a 1/2 gal of water and just dumped in on the ground.
I am pretty convinced this is my coolant - I went to open the "coolant resivor" and it sounded like "suction" and "rushing air" when I was about to open the coolant resivor cap - when I heard this, I didnt mess with it. Just left it on.
Now I drove my car today to work and plan on actually looking at what was leaking when I get home today.
some questions:
Obviously driving the truck with NO coolant = bad. Can I get some gallons of water to dump in there if I need to drive it to a garage? How can i safely move my truck to a garage while maintaining the coolant level and engine temps?
How should I check for the leak? Start the engine and let it idle? rev it? drive it? dump water into it and see if it leaks?
I hope this is just a hose or loose connection, but I am not sure. I am 100% positive it is coming from the FRONT, PASSENGER side of my engine bad, right where the "coolant resivor" is on the 4.0 ohc engine. (my front wheel well cover was completely covered in this stuff)
What else do I need to do or look for?
Thanks for the help!!
