can someone explain the best procedure on flushing and changing engine coolant. some have said to use the prestone flush kit while others have said not too. if not what is the best way to flush and change the coolant?
Drain coolant. Fill with water. Run engine until it reaches normal temperature. Drain it. Refill with water. Run to temp. Drain, and don't forget the overflow bottle. Refill with 60/40 coolant / water. Run it as normal. The 60/40 mix will be enough to account for water left in the block (you never get it all out) and still maintain the optimal overall ratio of 50/50.
The alternate is to take it to a quick shop. The prestone change kit requires you to cut both radiator hoses, which makes more points for possible leaks.
Your choice.
flush the radiator has a drain plug and put water into the system, to run a few time and then drain again, reflush the system and recovering from preston 60 40 New and then do Start the engine up to operating temperature
i just used the prestone kit and it was really easy. just be careful about cutting the correct heater hose. the instructions are pretty easy too. I liked it but if its not really nasty then i would just do the water and not worry about cutting up your hose
