coolant sensor

so i just put in a new 2.9l motor in and replaced the coolant sensor in doing this as well as to a 180 thermostat. problem is the guage inside the truck is saying the engine is running hot(above 3/4 on that little guage). so my question is what might be causing this problem? do i need to be worried about messing up the engine?

If the gauge is working correctly (it slowly moves up as the truck warms up), and your thermostat is new, she's runnin' hot -- that simple.
Check the fan clutch for leaks. It may need replacing at that age.

Are there any air pockets in the system? These things are a b!tc4 to bleed air out because of the t-stat physically sitting higher than the inlet of the radiator. Another question, does your thermostat have a "pellet" in it, and is it clocked correctly (at the top)? The pellet helps to bleed the system, but if it's clocked at the bottom, it isn't going to do it's job.
