Hot engine smells like radiator steam, general loss of coolant, green puddles in those low pockets under the injectors. I'm guessing that my intake manifold gaskets are shot. What's the likely situation, worst case, and estimated time for the fix? Oil on the dipstick looks like oil, and no increase in level. Thanks for the advice!

Most times that indicates a leaky hose or a thermostat gasket. Check it with the engine running and the top of the engine wiped clean of colant.. You should be able to find the leak.

The upper heater hose on mine was loose and coolent leaked all over the intake.

Thanks for the encouragement; heater hose is leaking at the nipple; bottom bolt of thermostat housing dripping. Both of which I can actually get to once the engine cools. I would not have thought coolant would have moved so far towards the rear of the engine from those locations. Now to get her dried up.

All of those things are possible. Especially if it's leaking while the trucks running. The fan blows it all over. My Thermostat housing was leaking and even thought it was near the bottom of the housing, I still had antifreeze on top of the manifold (in the little crevaces where it meets with the block on the lower intake)

mmhmm

I just had this problem. My upper heater hose had a pin hole and would spray on occasion. Was difficult to track down, till it blew completly. I would recommend changin these out, i beleive it cost me around $1.25ft for 5/8" heater hose. I beleive I had a small leak at the thermostat housing as well before I changed the thermo and gasket.
