coolant leak 2.9

2.9 out of something. not sure what year model of engine. leaking coolant i think between the block and the timing chain. is that possible? new gasket or timing cover?

Possible, yes. The water pump sits on the timing cover, and the timing cover bolts to the block. The ports for water from the block go straight through timing cover to water pump then through water pump and back through timing cover to the block. It could be leaking from the water pump itself, the water pump to timing cover seal, or the timing cover to block seal. I thought I had a timing cover leak that turned out to be the freeze plug on the passenger front side. I redid the seal on the timing cover anyway though and found out the timing chain tensioner and guide was broken. I'd stick your phone up between the tire and the wheel well and snap a couple pics to make sure it's not a freeze plug.

Depending on how often the coolant is changed the water pump seal is the most likely source for a leak in that area.
Water pumps have a weep hole in the bottom so they start leaking before they fail.....and leave you stranded.

Goose neck had a crack in it. Replaced and no problems yet. I think it was running down the block and playing tricks on my eyes. Thank you for the help.
