Hello, I have a 1999 Ford Ranger 3L, Flex Fuel. I know the coolant is green but my question do I use the Motorcraft concentrate or the 50/50 mixture?
Thanks
James

Its generally always cheaper to buy it straight and then dilute it yourself.

I have a problem paying for 50% water. I’m perfectly capable of adding water myself. Ideally it should be distilled water. I usually use a universal orange coolant in everything.

If you buy concentrate, you need to dilute it 50% when you put it in. So, whichever is more economical is the better choice. Generally, it's cheaper to buy a gallon of concentrate $13 and a gallon of distilled water $1.50? And you get 2 gallons of usable coolant for $14.50 total. Two gallons of premix $10 each will be $20. The premix costs $5.50 more. Your choice.

I will say that if I’m on the road and need some coolant, the pre mix is sometimes convenient enough to be worth it. Especially if I don’t need two full gallons.

That's about the only time I buy it. But usually, I have at least one jug with me.

I only carry pre-mix for this reason. I'm not going to dilute coolant in the woods

I use old coolant bottles to make my own 50/50 mix to keep on the shelf and in vehicles. I write on them with a Sharpie or paint marker and make a mark for full and halfway. Fill halfway out of a fresh jug of coolant, top with water, cap and shake.

I prefer to just get the premix. Probably more out of convenience than anything. You really can't go wrong either way.

Eric and Fastpkr hit it pretty good. pure cost savings, get concentrated. usually the best route especdially if you are flushing the system. for convenience, get 50/50. I have saved two 50/50 bottles as my Ranger has been sipping coolant lately... and now if I go through them the next bottle will be concentrate, pour half in each 50/50 bottle and then half a gallon of distilled. pitch the concentrate bottle, and I have two clearlymarked bottles of pre mixed coolant now. one i keep in the truck and one is on the shelf in the garage.
