I have a '89 ranger XLT Supercab w/ 2.9 V6 & 2WD. What's involved to convert it from 2WD to 4WD?

Swapping the entire engine cross member from a 4x4 truck into your 4x2, then installing all the 4x4 components, changing your transmission to a 4x4 one and adding a t case and drive shafts.

Please to a search...this has been discussed numerous times.

^^ +2...what he said....search!!!!!!!

I believe a DIY was written up about this, if I'm not mistaken....

Ay Carumba - not this again. Sorry Cruby, this has been discussed ad-nauseum here. Just get a 4x4 and save yourself the headache.

well, if he wants a solid axle, he doesn't need to change the crossmember, 2wd to SAS is only marginally more difficult than 4wd to SAS.

More work than it's worth. Sell it and buy a 4x4.

I'd disagree with that statement. If he's got a nice clean '89 he likes why not convert it. Except for the crossmember it's all bolt on changes. It's also been done using the 2wd drive crossmember.

????
i'd say that half of us here have gone through the same "headache", what i mean is a v8/sas swap is no less or more easy on either a 2wd or a 4wd, because all involved components get replaced anyway
