Post up your consoles that you built for in front of your shifter. I bought a new set of gages that are not going to fit well mounted to the lower part of my dash due to the four wheel drive shifter being to close. I am going to also add some power ports, switches and perhaps some speakers on the sides of it. I pretty much know how I am going to build it but looking for input.

Don't have a pic but if you have manual 4wd and automatic trans a standard three gauge pod with the mounting flange flattened slightly fits perfectly mounted on the bezel. Run wiring/leads under the little bit of carpet between the dash and shifter bezel, looks really clean. Pre V8 swap that is what I had.

I have a three gauge pod mounted off the the passenger side a bit for my gauges and a peice of wood I painted and mounted switches on to the left of that.

I want to draw up a one piece deal that has holes for both gauges and switches and have it burned on a laser.

I am guessing you have the 1st gen looking dash? being 87?

I found small faced gauges, and built a backing for them then placed them into the dash eliminating the stock ones. also have 3 set down low, these are vacuum volt and a analog clock. hope this may help.

He only uses the defrosters or floor vent and I deleted all that stuff under my dash as mine isn't/wasn't driven daily or in winter.

Like I said, not Gen1's, but gives you ideas:icon_thumby:

Thanks, getting some ideas from your pics. My truck is a gen 1 truck. This is my second but without the extra cab. I converted my instrument cluster to one with a tach. I had a set of gages mounted on the bottom of the dash in front of the shifter that fell apart. I bought some bigger gages that fit tight in front of my 5 speed and 4 x 4 shifter so I am looking for a better location. I am trying to think outside the box like you guys did.

BTW: I used plexiglass I bought at Lowes and after cutting the holes for the gauges, I used Wrinkle Finish paint to give it a textured look to blend in with the dash.:icon_thumby:
