i am wanting to do a 3 inch b/l. i am thinking about getting a 3x3 steel square tube with grade 8 bolts. dont tell me just to spend the money and buy one, cause if i had the money i wouldn't be posting this. so what do you all think about this. i dont see any issues with it. better than hockey pucks.

as long as you do something like koda suggested i don't see why it wouldn't work, got to be just as strong as the nylon blocks in the kits.

^^^ better, thin wall square tube on its side is weaker, easier to collapse. Tho I would consider 1/4" wall square tube.

agreed, but the op didn't state how he was using the pieces..:icon_welder:

ok if i use 1/4 thick laying down it should be fine, the body cant possibly be that heavy. or if i use tubing what kind and how thick.

Body Lift

If you are going to be using square tubing, then i recommend :icon_welder: the square tube closed with at least 1/8th metal plate. It will make it stronger and keep the mud / crud & snow out. good luck. :icon_thumby:

got some 3x3 square tubing, 1/4 inch thick and going to close the ends, oh did i mention for free, and now need to get some tubing for the fuel tank filler neck and radiator hose if it is to short, then to make my own ext for the shifter. i think i have the materials here at the house. i am hoping to lift this truck with no money involved. told you i was broke.

You may have to do something to the steering column. I have no advice how as I have not done a lift.

Richard

Yes, you would need to add a section to the steering linkage...and those you can buy but maybe not separately without doing some looking...so some money may be involved here...

Unless you are somewhat fortunate and happen to find some through friends or fluke encounters...like going to the market and meeting a guy in the vegetable section who says "oh, nice onions...by the way, I have a steering extension for a Ranger...look at the price of those carrots"...

Oddly enough...this does happen...lol
